Re: Guns don't buff people...

They can do both, no doubt:

Have a luck skill, possibly under the magic category, and have a Job Trait similar to THFs "Evasion Bonus".

Now we'll have THF/COR for god fights ._. just for the drops. Now that would cause some unfavorable balance to the economy!!!

Re: Guns don't buff people...

Well according to the ToA website the info about the Corsairs is that they use a Hexagonal Gun (a multi-barreled revolver) and luck based abilities.

So it seems the Corsairs abilities they get are all going to be valued on some luck system. They mention nothing of the weapon being the support from the description they put in the info about the Corsairs it sounds that their abilities will be what can change the results of a fight.

Lol, thinking about it I could only think of a few I thought would of been funny to see

Booty (Members awarded bonuses in each fight in accordance to their contribution to the fight)
Lady Luck (Random boost of stats to members in range)
Locate Treasure (Gives hint to a direction were a chest or coffer is at)

Last 2 almost sound like feesible possibilities to me...

Re: Guns don't buff people...

With hindsight being 20/20 and all that, has anyone else been parsing through the older interviews?

There was hints from the Tokyo game show, if I remember right. They mentioned there would be an elemental buffer job, and for those that heard it, they immediately started crying geomancer. So... how many our preconcieved ideas about specific jobs did they roll into corsair. They got pirate of course, did they also fit in geomancer? Don't get hostile with me on this, I dunno if they did, never player geomancer in any FF which is why I ask my question.

Re: Guns don't buff people...

Not really, because Geomancer's worked based on what they just so happened to be standing on. So say Geomancers are a part of the FFXI world, and you'lre lvling them in Valkurm:

If you were to stand in the water by the beach, you would be able to do water-based moves, whereas standing on the sand allows Earth based moves.

Re: Guns don't buff people...

If they did incorporate the Geomancer job, it would make picking a campsite involve a bit more planning that just finding one with access to mobs that is relatively safe from aggro/links. You would have to consider the elemental weaknesses/strengths of what mobs you were going to fight, and try to find terrain that would allow to exploit as many of those as possible.

That was a bit off topic I guess, but since most things in this thread are still specualtion, I think it might be okay.

Okay, that makes sense. Didn't know anything about geomancer, thanks for clearing it up. So S-E was able to roll a Pirate in with the Gun-mage and not a Geomancer.

WHat? That might mean we have to break from the well established hell holes that we all level grind in! We could -never- do that!

It would be terrible wouldn't it...I can't imagine how sad I would be to never, ever, ever, ever have to take another character to the dunes.

There's air everywhere and you're usually standing on a natural surface. Earth makes stoneskin, wind makes blink. They could make a Geomancer tank job quite easily.

Re: Guns don't buff people...

Ohh, that was something I heard from my friend (the same who tells me spoilers and goodies and stuff ):

Geomancers (that is, assuming they ARE in the game >.>) Will be able to throw up shields of whatever they stand on or w/e. Earth=Stoneskin like Shields, Water=Aquaveil like shields.

I don't believe him atm, but he wasnt wrong about the other stuff he told me >.< And he is playing the Xbox360 Beta. I'll take it at face value, but thats just waht he told me.

Re: Guns don't buff people...

If that's how Geomancers will work...I can see absolutely nobody playing the job. You're down in Siren sands and your shield skill yeilds...Aquaviel. Ifrit's Cauldron gives you the wonderful flame spikes! And don't forget the wonderful ice spikes in Uleguand. Dunno where tiled places (Garligie, Fei Yin, Ro'Maeve) would fit in...but seems a tad limiting on exactly where you can have a geomancer tank =X

Edit: Assuming what is said is true.

I wonder if pirates will hafta buy cartridges for their guns...or get their guns modified via item exchanges so they can cast spells...rather than the standard "buy a scroll."

I've seen that rumor everywhere since ToAU info started showing up.

They don't need to stick to what's been done before really. Or if they do, not the same strength as what we're used to. 30+ damage from Ice Spikes with a stronger paralyze proc would be evil.

Now say with me:

"They can come up with new stuff."

Say it again, 10 times more, make a banner with that quote, and slap it in ur forehead.
