Free Ant iVirus programs?

Free Ant iVirus programs?
Anyone know of any free Anti Virus programs that are good?

I keep having issues with McAfee, and I want to get rid of it, and get a decent free Anti Virus. I am unable to delete McAfee either for some reason. Any help on that as well? Thanks.

If you can't uninstall the existing AV software, it'd be best not to install another one.

Think you're looking at re-installing Windows.

A reformat will fix that!

Seriously though, I've found Avast to be solid. Never had any problems with it, but then I also didn't put it through a trial by fire either.

I have Stop Zilla atm which is working fine, but when ever I download something, I cant install it with McAfee, it keeps saying it found a trojan and deletes the file. When, the file isn't even a trojan! I'm getting sick of Mcafee and I can't disable it either. I just want it gone, but it came with my system so even if I reformat my PC, I will still have McAfee! ; ;

What do you mean you can't get rid of it? Does it just not show up on the add/remove software part of the control panel or what?

Theres no unistall for it. Its like its built right into the PC, its like trying to uninstall windows. But I got it fixed temparaly now though.

Can't you remove it from the startup programs? Worst case scenario but you could just delete its folder in Program Files? At least it'll stop it from working.

I was able to get into the program, and killed the "Real time Anti Virus" that was causing the issues. I downloaded another anti virus for extra security though, and I've had no issues with that one. I've only gotten issues when McAfee updated... >.<

For free anti-virus software, your may try AVG: AVG Free - Download Free Antivirus and Antispyware for Windows 7, Vista and XP
At least that anti-virus software is so far so good to me (hey, it is free so no complain from me )

Added:

As for removing McAfee, you may try the removal tool from McAfee:

Note: I never tried instruction in the above website, so I cannot vouch for it.

If you're thinking about AVG or any other free security program, consider grabbing an anti-malware or other program as well.

I'd recommend Spybot Search & Destroy and/or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
