My Mood: | BitTorrent > Comcast
Comcast thinks they are winning the P2P war by "limiting" BT traffic and bandwidth. Not anymore though: BitTorrent Developers Introduce Comcast Busting Encryption | TorrentFreak Excuse my language: but fuck off comcast tyvm. |

Unfortunately, I don't know that this will work, and if it does, I don't think it will be a long term solution. BT traffic, like many other internet protocols, can be identified by signal analysis. This measure is just another move in a cat-and-mouse game.

What better way to stand up against comcast than continuing to use their service.

| Re: BitTorrent > Comcast The wonderful thing about cable internet is that you can't opt for a different cable provider because there's only ever one. The only alternatives, DSLow, lolDialUp, and $atellite (which is also slow and can be useless in bad weather) are not nearly as nice. Unless you can get fiber in your area, you're basically stuck with whoever owns the local consortium, and Comcast knows it--that's why they can basically do whatever they want. Even throttled, it's still better than anything else you can get.

2- All the more reason not to pay them. Comcast is a horrible company, both in their practices and in their services. If you pay for them; whether you're circumventing their throttling or not; you are supporting that activity. If you really can't stand the very minimal difference between comcast cable and DSL, you have problems.

I was with comcast for about 3 months and got tired of their bull crap. In my areas there was always outages. There was always problems with my modem, with my service. It really got to the point I was calling comcast every other day to find out what the new problem was. Its like someone else said. At the time it was Comcast or dial up. When I got the chance to move to DSL. I switched with no hesitations. People can hoot and laugh at Dslow, But to be honest its just as fast and by far more reliable then comcast ever was. I have been running DSL now for 3 years and I have only called once to check on the status of my internet. Thats leaps and bounds better then the few months I was at comcast.

I had problems when I had DSL--almost daily. When I got Insight Cable, I had no problems. Now that Comcast bought out Insight Cable, I've been having problems. I've only been under Comcast for 1 week. They're so huge. I'm not thrilled about it, but the alternative (here) is Verizon and I'm not thrilled with them either. I get a choice between giant evil company #1, and giant evil company #2.

Yes you did, you had a choice between convenience or following your ideals which is what Illuen was getting at, though directing it at Feba. You can't really talk about 'not putting up with their crap' or 'stand[ing] up against comcast' when your decision is based on your convenience instead of any moral outrage or ideals. |

In our area there is only one cable option, 2 DSL options, and many dial up options. I recently wanted 2 seperate internet connections to my home but my cable company will not do it. (Go figure I'm basically begging to throw money at them and they say no! LOL) So DSL it is! First company sucked hardcore. Second company slightly better but when compared to my cable, it was like having dial up at premium prices. So I actually went with a dial up connection over DSL. LOL Every area is different with different options. I've heard some people complain to high heaven about my cable internet provider and yet they have been godlike to me. (Yes, I have a shrine. ) So what works for one person might not work for another. I have to say that I don't think I've ever heard anyone say anything good about Comcast though. lol Personally, we are constantly checking to see about advancements in our area and contact companies to find out specifics. This usually gets us on beta testing when it does come out in our area which is nice.

When I was leaving comcast, their internet service was much more unreliable and slower than any dialup connection I had ever used. The service was worse than the cheapest of the local ISPs, and the price was hilariously high. Honestly, if I was in an area where comcast and dial up where the 'only options', I'd look into wireless internet (Sprint's looks ok) or using my phone as a tethered modem (along with other options most people don't consider), but I would never go with comcast's service again. I'd learn to live with dialup, move, spend all my time at hotspots, whatever before I gave comcast another cent.
