Installing JP FFXI = Blood Vessels Erupting in Brain.

Well, I just got my JP version of FFXI from Play-Asia. All I can say is AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

So far, I've had to install, delete, and reinstall about 3 times now. Everytime I install it, I have to edit the registry so it will load at the "Don't ruin your life" warning screen. (POL Error: 020). And when I edit the registry, it asks for me to insert the FFXI disk so I can install it....AGAIN. Then when I actually load the game. It doesn't load any of the expansions. So I'm gonna try something different. Anybody able to give me a few pointers who's been through the same thing? (I'm using Vista by the way).

D: probably a Vista thing.
What does error 020 say?

Re: Installing JP FFXI = Blood Vessels Erupting in Brain.

Finally got it working. Thought 020 was incorrect file path, but 9001 is. So not too sure what it was. But I have two other minor inconveniences now. For some reason, when I play FFXI, I can't switch IME over from Kana to English and back using the ALT + ~ Keys. I have to use windower and manually click over.
My second one I fixed.

Rodin, you DO know there is an IME plugin for Windower right? (You already said you use Windower to click over....). You didn't need to import the JP version (unless maybe you're more fluent in Japanese than English?)

Re: Installing JP FFXI = Blood Vessels Erupting in Brain.

I'm actually having an IRL friend of mine teach me Japanese. He said it would be best if I got some things that would help immerse me into Kanji. FFXI is what I do most other than work and go out w/ g/f or friends, so I decided to import it. I'm really more using it to study/memorize kanji, and learn sentence structure more than talk, but I do occasionally talk in Japanese. I'm learning pretty quickly at the moment actually.

I'll be unable to learn Japanese through school, so I've been looking for inexpensive ways to teach myself. Looking around I noticed Final Fantasy for the PSP has English, Japanese, and Japanese with Kanji language options. It seems like playing the game through on Japanese without Kanji might help me out if I've got a Japanese to English dictionary with me, but I'm not so sure if excluding kanji through the entire game would be wise. I'm sure I'd learn it fairly easily just by seeing it repeated.

I'm trying to learn Japanese to keep up with a friend. This semester I'll be learning French to satisfy school requirements.

I got the same problem. So far the only thing stopping me is the JP CD I got that wont install FFXI at all, it gives me some crazy error. After the error I can't do anything else. I log into the JP version and after I hit "Play" I get Error 020 meaning FFXI isn't installed. I can understand it's not installed but it won't let me. Any suggestions I'm willing to try.

Re: Installing JP FFXI = Blood Vessels Erupting in Brain.

If you have the US version of FFXI already, I find it is fairly easy to get JP POL working with it. The client contains both languages in both versions. However, if your problem at this point is just getting the IME activated, check out the Windower forum's IME plugin guide; most of the document is about how to get Windows set up so that you can switch POL into JP input in the first place, so it's as applicable to JP POL as to said plugin.

For my part, POL always mysteriously crashes if I attempt to use the mouse to switch languages on the language bar, so I use keyboard shortcuts (e.g. Ctrl-Shift-1) to switch over.
