the other consideration is formatting. excessively large sigs are annoying, especially when they cause people to have to scroll right or down to get a full message. that isn't so much of an issue now that PiNG has implemented the resize feature, but we still would like people to abide by the rule.
As for moderators with larger (than rules) sigs, well, I'm sure they just "forgot." A friendly reminder via PM should be sufficient, no need to make a big fuss ok?
I don't feel it necessary to police others when I get modded about something. However, consistency across the board is an expectation. When I was an admin, I hated it when I modded someone and they came back with 'What about so and so?' That always bugged me. I tried to limit it by being as consistent as possible. That was always tough when it came to a heated thread or some flaming or trolling. However, size is black and white. If it's too big then it's too big and it should be that case across the board.

I agree that there should be limits. It's only fair to those users with slower connections who have to load every image on every page. Like the original poster though, I didn't like the feeling of being 'warned' for something that was 1) not blanketly enforced or 2) not clearly defined.

Sorry, I know how it is to be a mod better then most so I don't want to complain about it. I can understand how the issue can bring up confusion or even resentment though.

again, it's not so much of this site's bandwidth, but the member users' experience. larger sigs = more to download = slower to render page

well, as it has always been, if you disagree with a moderator's actions, please PM them about it.

Re: Warning on Sig size.

Well, all I am wondering is what is the exact image in Sig rule? Are there two standards, one for uploaded images and another for linked images?

Was my previously quoted rule the absolute rule on sig images regardless of uploaded or linked?

Re: Warning on Sig size.

no, the sig limits apply to both. however, if you're off by a couple of pixels here and there, we generally don't care.

btw, if you haven't read the announcement (or bothered to click the link in my sig), the official size limit is 550 x 350 and < 25k (which, I guess, means your original complaint about a mod's sig is not valid)

Edit:
where'd you all get this 500 x 100 x 19k from?

I don't disagree with their actions at all though. If I had a sig that was too big then that's cool. I just expect that same discretion across the board. Like you said, it's a bit up in the air and it seems like some mods may enforce it more fervently then others that's all. It shouldn't be that way, but it happens everywhere.

Overall, the crew that is in place here is one of the best overall of any board that I've been on. You guys for the most part put yourself on the same plane as us norms which is pretty cool. I mean it tells you something about how well the site is run when the biggest whine is about inconsistencies in sig size modding. lol

go to edit sig and read the note at the bottom of the page. That is the only mention on the signature page on size.

So yes a person has to click on the link in your sig to find the real information, or dig through threads to find it, I did a search on Signature and the Forum Rules thread did not come up.

ah, I see.
I guess that one (from the edit sig page) is an old message that was never updated. The one in the announcement (and my sig link) is, and has always been, the most current, in-effect rule.

Well, since the confusion has been resolved (hopefully) and the original complaint against another mod is not valid, would you mind if I closed this thread?

Re: Warning on Sig size.

Going back on what someone else said, I think that note in the Update Sig page is specifically aimed at the maximum size that can be uploaded.

Re: Warning on Sig size.

It was not a complaint as much as it was an observation and suggestion.

I have been coming to this forum for 2 years. Like I said I had never even had a pic in my sig for most of that time but recently seeing all the sigs I thought what the heck put a link to the job level pic from the FFXI community site instead of typing them in on 4 different forums.

Having been here for 2 years I may have read information on sig pics 2 years ago but, then when I added the pic 4-5 months ago I didn't go back to re-read them.

The info on the edit sig on size I know to be wrong because I had seen so many sigs that violated the listed specs. So I just linked to a pic. If the correct info had been on the edit sig page I surely would have followed the specs.
