Question about daily care.

I just started playing FFXI and I'm almost level 20. Someone told me that at 20 I could get a chocobo so I came here to look into it.

I saw that it takes 29 days to raise a basic chocobo and 129 days to raise a first class one. My question is: Is it Vana'diel days or Earth days? Kinda sucks that I got to 20 in a week but have to wait another month to be able to have a mount.

You can rent chocobos from stables starting at level 20 so you don't have to wait until you raise one.

Its 29 and 129 Earth days, I am sorry but that's how it works xD. However at level 20 you can get your chocobo license and ride one for like 100 gil or less. (depending on ware you are at.)

and 20 in a week? I wouldn't even have time to get to 20 in a week lol, and wait till you get higher up I think it will take you atleast a couple days to even go up some levels. That, and at 20 I would start working on missions too riding a chocobo would make them easier, or so I would think.

Really? It's not that hard. (from what I've experienced)

I so far have:
18 MNK (took ~ 2 days @ 4-5 hours each)
10 WAR (took ~ 3 hours)
10 BLM (took ~ 10 hours)
14 WHM (took ~ 8 hours subed MNK)
4 RDM (took ~ 1 hour)
5 THF (took ~ 1.5 hours)

It's good to know that I don't have to raise one first but I want to raise a black one that's crazy fast.

How much do chocobo cards usualy run? So I can start off with better than scratch.

Well you have to do a chocobo license quest that will take like...3-5 hours to do before you can ride one, and I think when your chocobo gets full grown you get a free VCH Card..here I will give you a good site to look at on raising chocobos and such sense I havent even started playing FFXI yet lol.

Note that the fastest speed a raised chocobo can achieve is equal to a rental chocobo. That requires first-class strength and the Gallop ability, IIRC. Since it's hard to raise discernment high enough to learn abilities, teach an ability, and then switch gears into raising strength fast enough to reach first-class, this is usually something that requires multiple generations of chocobo raising. Though they do have some stat-up items that can be used even after a chocobo is retired, if you gain and spend enough chocobucks.

Also it costs 400 gil a charge on the chocobo whistle you use to call your own chocobo. If you rent one, I believe it's (50g + your current level + demand),
so if there's no demand, and you're level 20, it will be 70 gil to rent a chocobo. even with high demand I rarely see more than 400, at least until you start to get higher in level.

I think the rentals from the Teleport areas cost a bit more but that's probably because the demand is high there.
