Re: Breeding a Hybrid Chocobo.

I haven't tried yet since I want SolarWind to be 1st/1st before I retire him. I also want to use my LS to raise them (for more simultaneous stable slots), so I think we'll pick a color democratically.

Re: Breeding a Hybrid Chocobo.

Finally, got 2 red male cards froma friend. I'm wondering if I should breed it with my yellow female... or find a red female and discard my previous chocobo entirely D:

A little question... if the chocobo inherit some abilities from its parents, will I still be able to teach 2 more?

What ability should I plan for my speed/riding chocobo to have :O? Any idea what Gallop and Canter do?

Re: Breeding a Hybrid Chocobo.

I have no idea what they do except that they are both related to how the chocobo moves rather than to how it digs. Therefore, a riding chocobo with both might be nice depending. My theory is:

1. Gallop relates to strength and speed (e.g faster running: better speed to strength ratio)
2. Canter relates to endurance and riding time (e.g. more efficient running: better duration to endurance ratio)
3. Burrow relates to discernment (e.g. it allows the chocobo to pick out items that normal chocobos overlook--it provides an increased selection of digging items or more generally increases the "quality" of the dig)
4. Bore relates to receptivity (e.g. it allows the chocobo to "detect" buried items deeper beneath the surface to increase digging yield--"quantity")
5. Auto-regen is the odd-ball and relates to the chocobo's stables stamina bar and is utterly useless except during care phase.

Your chocobo cannot have more than two abilities, so if it inherits one it's stuck that way. This is why my plan calls for the division of the line into two lines--digging line and riding line. Obviously, the precursor "color only" cards can be used to make virgin chocobos. For the riding line, inheritance of ability is best because you won't have to raise mental attributes to make the chocobo learn Gallop/Canter. Inheritance on the digging line is merely a convenience since you have to learn one of the two stories (depending on your choice of stable) on a Long Walk.

Re: Breeding a Hybrid Chocobo.

hmm reading from wiki I thought Discernment is a good one to raise if I want to make a base chocobo with abilities :O

# Discernment: Affects the chocobo’s potential to learn abilities.
that's what wiki said. Is it also in S-E website? I don't know....

Onion's plan is actually pretty interesting if that's the case, raising specificly strength and discernment without interfering each others.

Re: Breeding a Hybrid Chocobo.

I have revised the procedure for production of a purebred line above. If interested, please review the changes.

Discernment is the best attribute to raise for breeding chocobos and for digging chocobos. For riding chocobos, as long as you can get the abilities inherited, it should be considered secondary to Strength/Endurance.

Re: Breeding a Hybrid Chocobo.

In front of the match maker now.... Red male, Yellow female

Sports plan - raises possibility that the male chocobo's trait will be inherited

I hope the colors will come >.>

Those careplans aren't to effective, I used the "likely to be a male" 3 times and got females all 3....

Re: Breeding a Hybrid Chocobo.

I'm convinced with your breeding plan now Sabaron.

One thing.... how many abilities can chocobo inherit from its parents? Can it inherit 2?

I was thinking about this too. If the chocobo only inherits one ability, you still have to raise discernment to get the other ability (presumably), which would make it hard to go back to str/end for speed.

Re: Breeding a Hybrid Chocobo.

If it is indeed possible to inherit two abilities, but also possible to inherit less than two, your best bet is to get multiple cards for the parents and discard chocobos that don't get both.

I doubt the seller would be terribly put off by a bulk purchase as the cards are only 500gil each. It's the stock your paying for, get your money's worth. Negotiate a deal that's fair and results in the maximum chance for High Quality. It's only fair to the seller that they be the exclusive card seller, so a screen-shot of each matchmaking and trading at the breeder would be nice to ensure that you aren't planning to sell his/her cards.

Re: Breeding a Hybrid Chocobo.

I got all 4 cards for free from my LS friends. 2 males, 2 females. But I was kinda inpatient, I got the 2 males a few days earlier than the females >.> So I bred them all with yellow mates.

I have 4 chocobo eggs on main/mules now at the same time. red father + yellow mother x2, and the opposite x2

/bow Piku and Sangre

Sabaron, what you think about abilities being connected to stats. A lot of people also share this believe that Gallop/Canter relates to Strength and Endurance. If I want my chocobo to have these 2 abilities, would be better idea to raise physical stats? Because in Wiki, it says Discernment affects the chance your chocobo can learn abilties.... Will discernment alone be anough to make the bird learn Gallop/Canter? I'm hoping my first generation bird would be able to learn them both >.> Not so concern aout strength.

And I hope my egg hatches into Red D:

Re: Breeding a Hybrid Chocobo.

I posted earlier that, yes, I do believe the abilities are connected to stats, but I don't have any empirical evidence of such a connection--it just "fits".

WRT to learning... SolarWind will not and I assume can not learn Gallop. I've been drilling Impatient since I got it, but he won't pick it up despite having high Strength. I'm going to bet that Discernment is required to learn any ability regardless of whether or not having a high score in the related stat proves to boost this. From what I've seen, abilities are learned well at Impressive Discernment or better and you won't need more than just that, but I can't recall which abilities these were.

Thanks. I'm getting really impatient having to wait a whole month to try this >_<

Re: Breeding a Hybrid Chocobo.

I was going to try the breeding plan for abilities AND good stats... but now my current adolescent has turned into (what could possibly become) a black choco, I find myself thinking "aww, couldn't retire this one". :p

Maybe the answer is to start trying on the mules. I love this stuff; it's most fun I've had in FF in ages (she says... after 3 months of daily routines and still no Ultimate Chocobo!). :D

Question: do the mules need to be lvl20 with a choco licence in order to look after eggs/chocos?

Re: Breeding a Hybrid Chocobo.

I heard reports that sandoria carrot can give negative effect to stats? In my own experience, sometimes my chocobo stats go down a level after I take him walking too. Any thoughts?

One of my friend's bird got gallop and auto-regen. His bird has poor str/end but very high other 2 :O
