post 50 Blues
Well I'm at 58 woodworking. Apparently skill ups come at a much slower rate than I am used to. Nothing I can craft with out having an equally leveled crafting job will merit any money.
A LS mate has recommended I get my skill up +1 gear namely the gloves, apron and glasses ( these will make me look all librarian-ish). Sadly getting the guild points for these things will not net me any gil.
So what I was wondering with a cooking level of 20, a blacksmithing level of 20, a cloth craft level of 8, and a goldsmithing level of 38, are there any things I can make which will help bring in the gil I need?
Or should I sub thief and plunder Giddeus for yag necklaces, crafting grass thread and converting that to items I can sell thus leveling cloth craft? and hope to break even or move ahead gil wise so I can fund my woodworking...
any suggestions?

Re: post 50 Blues
I would suggest leveling your Alchemy to at least 29-ish. Then you can start making your own bast parchment for shihei. You should be able to HQ shihei like crazy. Shihei is always in demand and making your own bast parchment cuts the production cost down significantly. Even lower if you go logging an get your own elm logs. Ghelsba Outpost is actually quite nice for elm, and it's not too far from town.

If you get your own elm and get your own lightning crystals, (Qufim and Konschtat are nice for elementals) then the cost of making a stack of bast parchment is as low as 488 gil. Thats 460 for the hatchet to get the elm, plus 10 for the distilled water and 18 for the moko grass. That's if you even want to include the full 460 for the hatchet, because most likely, you'll be able to reuse it. You'll also get some other logs that may or may not be useful. Just bring some wind crystals and bundling twine when you go. You DO have Lumberjack, right? If not, get it. It is EXTREMELY useful.

Of course, the 488 gil cost is assuming perfect conditions: no hatchet break, no synthing break.

Think about it... how much does bast parchment cost? Like 12k-15k on the AH? You can make a killing just selling the parchment. But why stop there when you can HQ shihei easily?

Plus, at 29 alchemy, you stand a decent chance at HQing some black ink, too.

Also, seeing that you have attempted some cooking, get it to 30 or 40. It can be done easily and inexpensively. That way, when you ever find that you have an over-abundance of water crystals (I always do), you can make some money in Kazham or Rabao. Just bring some water crystals down and buy pineapples or melons (depending on which town you went to) and make an inventory full of juices. Set them up for bazaar, stand near the chocobo person, and go afk for a few hours or overnight. They sell really well, and it requires very little effort.

EDIT: You CAN do apple juice, which is at your level, but I know that melon and pineapple juice sells really well.

Re: post 50 Blues
Shihei isn't a very good money maker in my experience. I made my own parchment and ink, but I was several levels too low to hit the last HQ teir, and I ended up making barely any money.

Then again, two RMT crafters on my server make shihei 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

I used darksteel bolts to level wood past 59. Then went onto bodkin and demon arrows. Then ancient lumber and hume fishing rods, followed by a lot of cabinets and ebony poles until I paused crafting.

The real challenge for you would be to find darksteel bolt heads. If you happen to know any level 60+ smiths, then I guess you're in luck. Otherwise you can just try out a bunch of crafts, since you'll likely need subcrafts anyway.

Re: post 50 Blues
Well, Hilde, you're on my server so I guess I can tell you what you can skill up on.

NOTES: These synths are used if you want to spend less money for ingredients and these are EASY synths. Some of these can be profitable.

Tarutaru fishing rod - Walnut Lumber x 1 and Silk Thread x 1 with a Wind crystal

This caps at 65. Make your own Walnut lumber and farm your own Silk Thread. Very simple and easy. NPC these rods.

When you cap it, do this synth.

Tartaru Folding Screen - Rattan Lumber x 3 and Parchment x 3 with an Earth crystal.

This caps at 72. If you have lvl 31 leathercraft or higher to make Parchment, that's good. If not, get some Flutes and use a lightning crystal with it for desynthesis to get parchment; otherwise, buy them. For Rattan Lumber, you can buy it at the auction house (like 5k-6k in Asura for each stack) or you can buy them from Regional Merchants for about 2k each stack.

Regional merchants for Rattan Lumber:

Dhen Tevryukoh - Bastok Port - (I-6)
Bonmaurieut - San d'Oria Port - (H-9) in Cargo Room B
Sattsuh Ahkanpari - Windurst Port - (M-4) Near the Moghouse

These people only sell you Rattan Lumber if their nation controls Elshimo Uplands.

OR

Clothespole - Broken Clothespole and a light crystal.

This caps at 73. For me, it's hard to break rods. Just use big fish bait (ex. bait that catches large fish like meatballs) and go to a ferry and fish for them to break. You will need lots of these also. If you can get Moghancements, that'll be VERY VERY VERY useful if you're making these since a stack of light crystals are like 10k-15k on Asura. It's recommended to do Moghancements for all your synths. Just look at a list of furniture that you think is useful and something you can make.

Mithran Fishing Rod - Broken Mithran Fishing Rod and a light crystal

This caps at 83. Use Moghancements and Advanced support. Do the same thing like I said with Clothespole.

Mithran Fishing Rod - Rattan Lumber x 1 and Rainbow Thread x 1 with a wind crystal.

This is how to make a Mithran Fishing Rod instead of fixing one. It caps at 87. Buy the Rattan Lumber. I don't remember the cost of Rainbow Thread, but it could be high. Farm Spider Webs from spiders and find a guy who has lvl 78 clothcraft so that they can make Rainbow thread. Rainbow Thread requires 2 Spider webs per synth.

Eight-Sided Pole - Walnut Lumber x 2 and Mythril Ingot with a earth crystal

It caps at 94. Make your own Walnut Lumber. Mythril Ingot can be made from lvl 38, 40, and 41 Goldsmithing so it can be made in 3 ways. Just do the lvl 40 one. It requires 4 Mythril Ores. If you can find someone to help you with these, that'll be cool.

The synths become way more expensive so you'll just have to pick one to get to 100 if you're taking Woodworking all the way. I hope this helps! ^_^

Re: post 50 Blues
isn't walnut log / lumber expensive at guild? (not online to check)
but hey thanks for your 60-94 guide Coldrain.. I keep seeing the recipes for broken rods and i really can't see trying break them being fast at all.. does it work? i mean do you skill like you would normally? at an ok rate.

There's always a way around i guess but not always a way around for the people with lower funding, mind you by lv60-62 should be able to profit of scorp arrows and darksteel bolts enough to afford the higher synths.

Crank dat Soulja boy..
