| Interesting factoid about Campaign Imps
I'll be needing to learn Frenetic Rip pretty soon, and I was toying with the idea of using the Imps in Campaign to learn it from, since they're so plentiful and easy and all that. So for shits and giggles, which is the primary reason I do so much in this game, I went out to see how well I could fight one just as a lone 58 Blu/Nin, no foods, buffs, etc, and with no tags on. Well not too well it turns out, but not terribly bad either. If I didn't have to worry about amnesia, Blu/Dnc with cocoon or some defense food would work just fine against them at this level IMO. But the interesting thing was when I disengaged and then slept the Imp, it lost it's battle stance and stopped attacking me right before Sheep Song hit it, and regained it's battle stance once Sheep Song had hit. It didn't attack me once it woke up either, nor did it regen it's health while slept. I followed it around for a little bit, like three minutes. It did not regain any of it's lost health, and it seemed like I had lost all enmity from it. I engaged it again to test out the enmity loss thing again. This time I turned my back on the Imp while still engaged, and Sheep Song was resisted. The Imp kept attacking me, and I put away my weapons. Maybe about 10-15 seconds after that, the Imp stopped attacking me and went off on his merry way. So I think it is safe to say that if you stop attacking them, and maybe you have to disengage, the mobs will lose interest in you. Soooo, and without putting terribly much thought into how I'd do this. I'm thinking Blu/Thf, SA it until you break the horn, get it's health low and go in for the kill at that point after hopefully having seen Frenetic Rip a few times. Have a couple of sleep spells set so that you can keep it away from other imps who may want to try to heal it. Head Butt would probably be good to have set.

I've fought some imps in Campaign as WHM75, and every now and then they would just seem to choose to wander away ... it's annoying when you're trying to kill them away from the other mobs.

The Imps are Sch/Whms, healers that don't engage or attack unless engaged or attacked first. They also retreat from battle unless constant actions are taken on them. They're not fighters, they're healers. Much like how Allied healers will avoid direct actions against mobs unless attacked, and will run away once they're no longer being attacked Imps do the same thing. They're easily the squishiest things in campaign and second least aggressive class in the Beastmen's army.

Are we talking about Imps (such as on the way to the chapel in La Vaule) or Fiendish Leechkeepers? The Leechkeepers are famous for having ADD. (And wiki says they're SCH/RDM. I've even seen one drop Phalanx on a Fortification.)

I thought everyone knew this about the Leechkeepers. I could swear there was an update note mentioning their enmity priorities, too. In any case, you don't even have to disengage. If you fail to continually damage them(for instance, spend six to eight seconds applying buffs to yourself/others), the little fuckers will lose enmity and go focus on supporting some heavier mob, even applying DoTs won't hold their enmity. It's a notorious pain to keep their attention.

We're talking about Fiendish Leechkeepers. Quote:

My Mood: | Re: Interesting factoid about Campaign Imps I had never noticed that and I used to campaign quite a bit....*Until Sandy started to frequently own Eldieme.* I think the reason I've never noticed is because as soon as imps spawn everybody runs to kill them, so unless I was soloing one and barely keeping hate, I wouldn't have noticed him running.

awesome thing to know, this is probably a much easier way to learn frenetic rip than trying to get a group together to fight higher level bitch imps

My Mood: | Re: Interesting factoid about Campaign Imps Now that I think about it, I hadn't thought about being able to learn it off of the campaign imps. Unless you have that area yourself though, you or one of the peeps in your party have to land the killing blow on the mob to learn the spell if I remember correctly. So if a whole bunch of random people run up then you might not have a good chance. I might have to try to learn Frentic Rip like that when I get to the appropriate level.

| Re: Interesting factoid about Campaign Imps More like they don't solo much in Campaign. I've seen people go "ZOMG what was that!?" When they happen to go "help" me (read: feed the mob some TP) while I'm soloing and then see skills they usually don't notice when they are part of a 20+ person group fighting a single mob.

You or someone in your party/alliance has to land the killing blow, and the mob has to have used Frenetic Rip. You also can't learn the spell if you have tags on. The easiest place to do this would most likely be in the Necropolis [s] during a fight while it's controlled by the beastmen. There are hordes of Imps wandering the halls, and all of the players there are busy wailing away on a fortification that few mobs visit. Your only competition for the imps should be Allied NPCs. I'd think that just about any lvl 75 could easily solo one of these imps. I imagine that the only hard part would be to break the horn before you kill it. Quote:
