Epic Fail.

Sorry, it had to be said. CoP only gets much worse from there on in in terms of difficulty buddy. Promyvion is a complete joke after the great CoP nerf. Read Erecia's guide and make sure everyone has Anima.

CoP is 75% Preparation and 25% skill.

I though that just leaving this comment alone would be good enough for me, but it was starting to bug me, so.....

I know for a fact that is was a lot easier to get a group and get through CoP right after it was released, though it was a much harder endevour, based on the fact that it was new and everyone wanted to do it ASAP.

I played back then actually and ended up quiting, for reasons not really related to the game, a week or so after the CoP expansion was released. I remember immediately going for the Promyvions and creating strategies and learning about all the things mentioned in all the walkthroughs, it was a great time and I wish I could have kept playing and just gotten them all done then, however that was not in my power (i'm pretty sure I have a post somewhere on here that explains what happened.)

Coming back to the game now, so far after the release of CoP along with the release of ToAU and WoG, nobody is doing CoP shit anymore, unless its an LS, rare, working together to get it for some new members or something along those lines. Pick up groups dont exist for them anymore, and on the rare occasion that one does exist it fails miserably... at least that is my experience after joining as many as I can find over the last couple of months since I have returned. Everyone that has completed them knows they are a pain in the ass, and rarely want to go back to help people that haven't done them. Leaving most of the people that are available to do them just wandering hopelessly searching for each other, never to meet.... never to accomplish their goal....Or only to fail because half of the pick up group is prepared and the other half are complete retards.

I have farmed the Promys, I have my ethers and pots, I've read about weaknesses and anime and prepared as far as I can tell about as well as any one member a Promy party should. And I always end up losing all the shit I worked so hard for, or not getting anywhere at all after waiting around for everyone else that jumped on the idea of a pick up group, and someone drops, nobody wants to fill their place, and I'm out in the cold again.

After reading a lot of everyone's posts, and having the past that I have with CoP, I know that the only way I'm going to get past even the damn Promys is to lead the group myself: Search out others that need them, create a damn LS if I have too, in order to organize and stay in touch with them all, train them, help them prepare, and then lead them into the fight.

This is going to be a long road.... I just hope I have the mettle to finish what I'm about to start....

Malacite casually dismisses pretty much everything as "fail" at one point or another.

Congratulations on making the list!

Re: I love Blue Mage but....

Like a good BLU friend of mine told me man, lvl BLU and use it to gain access to sea; its what he did lol. BLU got him through EVERY part of CoP (with help of course, cant solo that shit), and I've slowly been doing the same. You picked one hell of a job to take up to 75 (more kudos if its your first 75) so stick with it man, and dont give up! All the advice given here is good so I wish you the best.

Re: I love Blue Mage but....

Well no progress on the Promyvions yet. I think I finaly have my LS "hyped" to get them done, and I've even been able to get a few of them to help me farm anima, but we haven't taken a dry run of one of them yet.

I'm thinking about just continueing to level my BLU and get high level help for some of the higher level alternatives to soloing the low ones in CoP.

The only spell that I really can't get access to without CoP and that I actually need is Refueling. I have a couple of friends in the LS that are high enough to fight the clusters out in Mount Zhyohim (sp?)

You think I'm going to miss any of the other spells at 60? I know that I can't go any further than 60 without it, and I wouldnt dream of trying because like i said earlier I am a completist.

Your thoughts?

I did, and this was back when CoP came out so don't lecture me. Promies are a fucking joke now with the changes SE's made.

Take the initiative and make sure the party knows wtf it's doing. That's the key to CoP - Preparation.

Re: I love Blue Mage but....

Looking at the Blue Magic Hunting Grounds, don't forget you can also learn Refueling in Besieged, when the trolls attack. You or someone in your party/alliance need to get the killshot on the mob though. On the other hand most people tend to avoid the bombs, so that might not be too hard.

I got a couple of Smns from my LS to help me learn Refueling in Mount Zhayolm, took about 15 to 20 bombs, about 8 to 10 of them actually used Refueling if that helps any.

I would say get the help for learning it in Mount Zhayolm. It is a rather useful spell and it's nice to be able to haste yourself. Is it absolutely needed? No. But it's an absolutely bitching spell to have.

As far as CoP only spells though, let's see.

Frightful Roar:

PIA to learn in Uleguerand Range due to the mobs be lvl 72+, best learned in the Sacrarium. While a defense down spell is nice it's main uses will be for special fights and as an Auto Refresh spell. If you do not get Frightful Roar the soonest you will be able to set Auto Refresh would be lvl 74. 1mp/3s isn't a big deal breaker, but I wanted it badly and it is worth it to me to set it. This one is more a matter of personal preference.

Jettatura:

Easiest to learn in Riverne Site #A01/B01, but the Grauberg Hippogryphs are pretty easy as well. Actual uses, unknown. I haven't researched this spell much and I think it is used in any traits. I'd say can be learned no problem in Grauberg [s] with some high level help.

Radiant Breath:

It's not really a CoP only spell, but Riverne Site #B01 really is the best place to hunt for this spell. Second best would probably be Ajattara in Grauberg [s] or maybe Wyverns in the Labyrinth of Onzozo. Or War Wyverns in the Mamool Ja Beseiges. It's not needed, but damn I want this one and I have yet to get the help I need to get it. Should be easy to get when you farm the giant scales to access the BCNM fights though.

You won't see any other sea spells until lvl 70+, and I'd say that you're missing out on alot at that point if you don't have Sea access. True, Frenetic Rip stays fairly decent as a DD spell from what I hear, and I hear that Hysteric Barrage is very comparable with say, Disseverment in damage. So you'll have two fairly decent DD spells without Sea access.

However you'll be missing out on alot of the self SC+MB MP Drainkiss/Magic Hammer aspect of Blu, as well as some of the purely DD self SCs you could have done. Although I do see a Vorpal Blade > Hysteric Barrage = Detonation SC you could do, but that's a little meh IMO.

You'd be missing:

DD/self SC/boss fight DD spells:

Cannonball
Disseverment
Vertical Cleave

Various nifty set spells for traits:

Plasma Charge
Actinic Burst

Others:

Saline Coat
Temporal Shift
Reactor Cool

So I'd say worst case, you can wait until 70 before working on Sea access. I myself wouldn't go beyond that without those spells, they are just too useful IMO.

Awesome! That is exactly the information I was looking for!

I now that it is important to get Sea access for any job, but for BLU especially past 70.

With your information I will be getting help for Refueling in the MT. Z, and getting to around 70 before I actually FOCUS on getting sea access. If it becomes an option ealier then great, if not i'm not going to stress it.

BTW any tips for levels 42-50? I'm not getting many party invites and soloing is getting longer and longer so it kind of sucks! I did however last night join an LS party that needed a tank. So I subbed /war and turned into a makeshift paladin. It was awesome... I was told that I was as good as a paladin at holding hate but I did more damage than any Paladin they had ever seen. I was very happy someone finaly let me shine as a non-DD or Healer in a party.

If more people would give non-standard jobs a chance to prove themselves this game could become even greater than it already is

Re: I love Blue Mage but....

For levels 42-50+ I've been doing mostly FoV for exp. Haven't had a whole lot of time for parties, and to be honest haven't had alot of parties interested in a Blu either. Some of the level capped parties can be quite good as well, so I wouldn't turn any up if you're looking for exp.

Blu/Dnc works quite well for soloing stuff. At some point, about lvl 57ish for me, I found that I could finish fights quicker with /Nin and have the same amount of downtime to regain my MP so I've switched over to /Nin for now.

Although I will point out that joining level capped parties and doing a bunch of solo can leave your Blue Magic skill behind quickly, so be sure to make some time to level it up.

It's actually kind of a good thing to wait until lvl 70 before getting Sea access if you didn't have it already and don't have another job to try and gain it with. You'll want to be at the level cap for all of the level capped fights, however once you reach the uncapped fights which start after CoP 6-4, you'll want to be at least level 70 I would say. 7-1 through 7-4, doesn't matter what level you are really. Starting at 7-5 and on you'll want to be at least 70, and I probably wouldn't be bothered taking a lvl 68 person from 7-5 on. So IMO it makes for a very convenient time to break for CoP. Plus you'll probably learn 2 or more of the Sea spells while doing the missions.

Getting a CoP static together and keeping them together can be a hard thing sometimes, so I would probably recommend waiting until lvl 70 before doing it unless you can really pump out those levels while doing CoP fights and all. Our Dnc was in his 40s when we started, and in his mid to high 60s when we finished, so it can be done. Although I will say that I have no clue when he slept.

That is a general statement though. I don't know how often you play, what jobs you have leveled or your situation, so take what I say with a grain of salt with regards to waiting until lvl 70 before getting a CoP group going. I would say though to aim to be level 68+ starting at 7-5.

Re: I love Blue Mage but....

Well I have THF at 58 right now, and NIN at 55, and BLU should hit 44 tonight I am hoping. It does make more sense when you put it that way. If I wait I can hopefully crank out the CoP stuff without having to level in between the different missions.

Currently I'm the only one in my LS with a higher leveld BLU, everyone else has just dabbled with it or leveld it up only to be used as a sub job. I really love BLU and want it to be my first 75, even if it is going to take me even longer than another job.

Re: I love Blue Mage but....

I wouldn't necessarily say crank out the CoP missions. Doing roughly one BCNM fight/mission a week takes up a surprising amount of time in order to do and the preparation for it. I don't think you mean that you'll blitz through the CoP missions, but I'm just giving you a heads up if you are.

It might be worthwhile to take a look at how long it'd take you to get your Nin or Thf to 70 or so, which ought to be plenty high for the airship fight. If you do it right you might be able to hit lvl 70 Blu right about when your static reaches Sea, just a little something to think about.

Re: I love Blue Mage but....

I've been subbing RDM lately for levels 40-44, and I've basically soloed all of the levels, except for one when i subbed war in a levely sync ls group and tanked.

I was wondering what subs you switch between when soloing? Have you tried BLU/BST? I've been considering leveling BST up as I only have limited time to play and it is known as a very solo friendly job.

Also, I started DNC a while ago and played it to 19ish, I was also considering getting this up to around 25 or 30 to try as a good BLU/DNC solo strat.

Your thoughts?
