Hey all,

Blu 23 atm, and I notice that when I use metallic body, it only lasts like 3-4 hits, sometimes less. Is this normal for stone skin, or is it just crap and a waste of points to use now? I do know that 3 or so hits with almost no dmg is still awsome, but is it worth the bmp and mp used?

-Yes my blue magic skill is maxed.
-Yes, using cocoon.
-I have learned all spells up to and includeing lvl 30. (Just tossing this in there because I'm proud of it! lol )

Any advice is appreciated.

I dont use MB any more, I find is sucks :p its a nice spell at lower levels, but Cocoon is sooo much better.

When I was tanking from 25-30, it worked out rather nicely. With Mandy's, it lasted 2-3 rounds, no problem.

The regular WHM/RDM Stoneskin spell is very much quite silmilar, both in damage absorbed and casting time.

Could only ever really cast SS once and that was pre-battle. Usually gets interrupted otherwise unless hate switched up.

Only other reason I could see it useful would be if you grabbed too much hate from spamming BLU magic. Probably best to buff with Cocoon in that situation as well.

I did'nt use it on my old character. I think the damaged stopped is equal to your blu skill.

It's not in my first picks as a mega spell to have.

It's only 1 Blue Magic Point cost... and if I have that slot spare, I'll sometimes dump it in there just on the offchance.

I'll cast before combat, and keep it about when suffering AoE.

Metallic body + Mysterious Light = max mp boost...well its not that bad. I mainly use MB when I am soloing against dc/em MB works wonder or if I am farming while its not really needed MB on too weak lasts so long that no mob manage to break the stoneskin before it wears off. Killing sabertooth tigers, goodbue, bees etc around battalia downs and rolanberry fields.

Metallic body protects from Physical and Magical dmg which makes worthwhile, against an IT mob MB is not that good at all but for soloing its a good tool.

I almost never use that spell anymore Unles sim doing an ENM or Escort, Metallic body just doesnt last long enoughto warrant it in mos t"Normal" situations.
During instanced fights missions, etc it's good. It's DEFINATELY not good when learning blue magic.

I do use it on occasion, mainly for when I SC, I use Cocoon and Metallic Body together to keep my MB from getting interrupted if I pull hate. Now that I'm 60 though and have TA, I doubt I'll use it anymore.

As /NIN it also has its uses, especially solo, where anything that will absorb even 1 hit for you is worth 1 BMP if it means you can get Utsu back up more effectively.

At lower levels it flat out sucks, but at 60 it seems to absorb about 90-100 HP...not mind-boggling by any means but it serves a purpose.

You also have to consider Metallic body is a lvl 8 spell, Stoneskin is lvl 28 for WHM and 34 for RDM.

And the metallic body used by mobs has always been much weaker than Stoneskin.

well for a rdm, especially at high levels, the casting times are noticibly different (especially when casting during a refresh cycle)

for whm/rdm stoneskin is Enhancing Magic and MND dependant and get it at a moderate level, BLUs get it very early on, when they dont have much skill or mnd.

i'll have to see it at higher levels, but so far pollen & healing breeze haven't capped like cure & curaga do. i'm sure they & metallic body cap somewhere but comparing a level 8 or 10 or even level 20 blu casting metallic body and comparing it to a 28+ whm or a 34+ rdm which both having high MND stat and Rdms having a very high enhancing magic stat, is folly.

now compare a BLUX with Metallic Body to a WHMX or RDMX Stoneskin (with X being the same level) with comparable magic skill (Blue Magic to Enhancing Magic) note MND stats and get hit with 1000 needles. that'll tell you what the cap for Metallic Body is and if it is actually comparable to Stoneskin or not. Since a BLU will want 1k needles anyways, why not kill 2 birds with one stone?

note: i mentioned 1000 needles because that's a way how stats for Phalanax & Stoneskin were figured out.

MB has had it's place. It was a saver in the lower levels, it still can be in the higher levels. It's a damage buff, you give and take if you want it or not. Personally, i only throw it on if i have a slot available, but when you get higher levels usually all slots are used to their full potential, so MB is out for me

MB is situational in lower levels, and is useful if you want Max MP boost at level 40. Diamondhide is so much better for a SS buff when you get it, and by that time if you still wanted Max MP boost, you could use Mysterious Light + Hecatomb Wave instead of using Metallic Body.

It's give and take, mix and match, BLU is the Mr. Potatohead of FFXI jobs.
