Interesting note

While doing my daily random Wiki research I came across this:

Which I thought at first was very similar to Woaud, or whoever the NPC was that began the Blue Mage quest. Surprisingly, Woad is a plant that produces a blue dye, which is also called Woad, though the flower itself isn't blue.

This may or may not having any actual relevance, but I think it strikes a great resemblence. A seemingly simple, ordinary man that's tasked with finding and creating Blue Mages...

actually that is kinda cool, and yes the NPC to start the quest is Waoud so very similar.
