Leathercraft has a bunch of recipes for Blacksmithing where it's needed. You could probably also go ahead and put a few levels in alchemy and woodworking if you're making weapons. Leathercraft is mostly used in armors I find.

Many subcrafts are good for smithing. Wood, gold, cloth, leather, bone, and even alchemy might be used. It doesn't hurt to level multiple. It may even help. There's several cases where having one craft high enough will allow you to profit quite a bit off of another, or you can even skill multiple at the same time.

I have a question about synthesizing an item that requires two guilds, such as a Bronze Cap, for example. The cap for smithing is 4, yet it says Leathercraft (1). If my Leathercraft skill is currently 0 and Smithing is currently 2, will both skills rise if I synthesize a Bronze Cap?

Yes you can get increases in both when below cap in both, keep in mind though you also have a great probability of failure as both skill requirements factor in to your success. Same same for HQ tiers, in order to reach the HQ tier you need to have all skill srequired at the appropriate level. | |

rather than making a new post.... im goldsmithing 42 should i raise smithing to 100 or keep going with goldsmithing? im looking for something cheaper to level then goldsmithing cause its so damn expensive, but i know its a good sub craft to have, any better choices?

I'm a craft whore of sort, I think most high level synthers would rec leveling all crafts to 60 and then deciding what suits you best. Usually easiest to start on the ones in your home town and progress on from there, since I started in Windy I leveled cooking and cloth first. Cooking IMO is a great one because items are finite/consumable, you may not get the big return on single items but the flow is constant.

0 to 41: profit, or at least break even 41 to 45: small loss making Pearl Earrings 45 to 51: small profit or break even making gold ingots (heavily dependent on market, and can turn to big losses if you don't time it right) 51 to 54: HUGE losses between Pearl Rings and Hydro Claws, with no relief sight My suggestion: take Goldsmithing up to 45. Then see if you can take it to 51 just on Gold Ingots without losing all of your savings. If you haven't taken a craft past 50 yet, you'll be in for a big surprise when skill up rates drop sharply at level 50. Then, see if you can get Goldsmithing up to 52 without losing your sanity. That'll tell you whether or not you should drop Goldsmithing for a different craft.
