Does Blm still have all those problems? - Final Fantasy XI :: Dreams in Vana'diel :: Community

A while back I remember someone made a post all about how terribly Blackmages were treated and that all they did was act as a substitute healer and Square hated them. Is all this still true or has Square made an effort to increase the Blackmages capabilities?

This is second hand info (mostly) but I heard black mages are treated extremely favorably especially at high levels... black mages do some serious damage, and for some boss fights black mages even do a bulk of the damage. Apparently 3 classes really never have problem getting groups: blm, whm, and brd. I know enough healing resources can be tough to come by sometimes, and most black mages sub white mage, so if you need more healing it's almost natural/necessary for the black mage to help at least somewhat. In my group lastnight I was the only whitemage with 2 black mages, and although we had plenty of damage, the black mages had to help with healing to lower downtime between fights.

substitute healer >> not at all

BLM have MP. so they can help with healing. that's all. doesn't mean they have to concentrate only on healing like a whitemage.
Just some additional help apart from their powerful nukes.

It's actually challenging to heal AND kill, as a BLK/WTM. I am seldom without a party, now; and I just got my Chocobo last night (big thanks to my LS: FallenAngels). You'll WANT to heal your party members, if you want to survive. Saving all that MP for yourself and just using it to kill is a bit greedy, in my opinion. I was in Qufim and it was extremely crazy. Clippers and Dancing Weapons are not what I call a field day. All the healing power you can muster is welcome.

Actually a lot of people respect my black mage for the damage hes putting out, whenever I cast my spells, it makes a notable difference (1/6 tough enemies health.) I enjoy being a black mage, though the whole dying part has its down side, and I kinda wish I started as a red mage.
