For melee skills, it's best to skill up on mobs that are a few levels above your current skill level. By that, I mean: 1. Find the skill level you /are/ on This Page, probably under A/A+. 2. Look for the level that corresponds to that skill level (the top row of the charts). Add a couple levels to the level you just looked up. 3. Look for mobs that have that level. 4. ??? 5. Profit! Alternatively, you can use This Page and follow it. For magic skills, especially summoning, healing, and music (string, wind, singing) you can just cast on anyone (including yourself) for skillups.

From what I remember BLM magic skills like Dark, Elemental and Enfeebling practically levelled themselves in low level parties. The ownus is on you to make sure you cast the spells that level them and SE practically throws you the skill levels. As for weapons, well, at 38 you aren't going to get them to cap I'm afraid, as /NIN you can't kill the monsters you need reliably enough (due to unexpected deaths) to run the risk of trying to cap it; as /DNC that might work for a bit assuming your subjob is high enough to get the right buffs from it but even then the mobs will quickly become too strong. Personally I recommend you skip capping any weapon skills like Club / Dagger / Staff all together until 75 (unless you have some incredibly important need for them) then you can cap them all in Besieged, Campaign or some other "safe" (meaning no EXP loss on death) environment with absolutely no risk to you, get good EXP and have fun stabbing monsters to boot. By the same token as weapon skill levels you can skill up all your magic in Besieged or where ever too, assuming you can get into besieged at 38 which I don't know if you can any more. Assuming you can't get in besieged or campaign is too difficult to stay alive in then you can still cap Curing Skill by standing in town and casting cure on yourself if you are really that desperate to have it capped. You could try casting cure on undead monsters that are higher level than you I heard thats a good way to level up Curing Skill, but just leveling WHM or RDM for your subjob should do most of that for you.

| Re: Skill ups ?? User:Elwynn/Mage Skill-up Guide - FFXIclopedia, the Final Fantasy XI wiki - Characters, items, jobs, and more And don't worry about your weapon skills until you get up near 75. You won't need them in a party, and they'll level well enough on their own if you level a melee job. When you do get to 75, I would consider getting Spirit Taker just as important as getting a merit, but joining a skillup party in Cape Teriggan and later Boyhada Tree will do you well enough. When you're within ten points or so of cap, Besieged is your best bet.

The only WS that give you decent MP back are Spirit Taker and Mystic Boon. You basically need to be near 75 to get either, and you have to do a lot of Nyzul climbing to get the latter. EDIT: and Mystic Boon is WHM only If you just want MP, stick with Aspir. As far as good combat skills to have as a BLM, Evasion is probably the most useful. You basically do whatever you can to take hate, without dying. I did it as WHM in Besieged, but WHM is a bit better at taking the hits.

1) You are made out of paper and if it did an AOE move you could die or cost the healer mana curing you out of red. 2) You could be spending that time resting for mana back. At low level parteis where elemental enfeebles like Frost, Rasp and Drown are worth casting you get surprisingly little down time as BLM, especially if you are aspiring / draining on the pulls as well so those few seconds you spending getting the "kill hit" could have got you back some much needed mana. If you haven't read it already check out Guide to the Elemental Enfeebles.

rasp drown frost or choke shock burn Rasp, drown and frost are more oriented for helping melees out, so you can choose to stack those. Choke shock and burn are more oriented for nukes. | |

I have now finished playing FFXI, I got practically everything I felt was worth doing done (except taking down Dynamis Tavnazia). I started playing the game at NA release (I imported to UK) so I am guessing I it was about 5 years for me before I hung up my BLM Relic Hat +1 and decided to get a tan and go beyond the magical portal that connects my house to the "outside".
