Magic critical hit rate? Important for BLM?

Was browsing the AH and saw under the 'Grips' section a Wise Strap - Increases Magic Critical Hit Rate 3%

Who does this apply to, or should I say who is this most important to? Anyone casting offensive magic spells? Or just those dealing high dmg spells? Or am I totally off? They're pretty cheap so it kinda threw me for a loop...

Re: Magic critical hit rate? Important for BLM?

This would affect any offensive magic spell that does direct damage in the same manner that a critical hit can work for a weapon. For instance, if your Stone I usually does 30 damage, it may occasionally do 35 damage for no apparent reason. (Actual numbers may vary, see store for details).

That the Wise Strap is so cheap is most likely because the effect is next to useless. You would be better off using one of the Elemental Grips or a grip that gives INT bonuses. According to the wiki, everyone has a natural 0% chance of a magical critical hit, so this would give you a whopping 3%.

If it actually does anything, you won't notice it and just think you landed a nuke unresisted, which is probably the case.

I had one for a while and didn't really feel any difference from before.

I'm sure someone out there swears by it just like the do a Monster Signa for BRD, but most people haven't found it very useful, which is why you can find them dirt cheap right now.

Re: Magic critical hit rate? Important for BLM?

It's a 3% chance to get +10 Magic Attack Bonus on nukes. +10 MAB is in itself closer to +6 or +7% nuke damage depending on your total MAB. Taking into account the 3% chance for it to proc, it averages out to a 3% boost to your total nuke damage.

By the way, unless you have an item with Magic Crit+, you can't score these so-called magic crits.

Thanks all, guess I'll stick to my Bugard Strap +1 for now...until I can afford some elemental straps (which run from 50-100k on Bahamunt )

Not quite right on this. If you get about a 10% increase on 3% of your nukes you are only gaining an overall increase of about .3% to your damage over time.

"Magic Critical Hit Rate" Testing - Order of the Blue Gartr

A discussion of Magic Critical stat. It appears the testing confirms about the +10 MAB and everything.

The overall consensus is that its not that great of a stat compared to Bugard Strap +1.
