Read many threads on the maat figt, most seem to point to the following:

Freeze
Elemental Seal, Sleep II
Flare
Manafont, Stun
Firaga III

Seem about right?

Not a BLM, but...Why Freeze -> Flare? The -resistance from Ancient Magic doesn't last long enough for you to hit him with a second AM (15 sec duration).

Might as well do Flare -> Freeze, so that he's weak to Fire when that Firaga III hits.

I have done the Maat fight on BLM only once, and I was 75, so I don't know how helpful I can be. I used Manafont right off the bat, and realized I didn't even need it at all. As a level 69-70, you might. And honestly, it's worth it to two hour, that way you don't have to hope/pray that you get lucky on some Conserve MP procs. Some say to save it until you need it, I say just burn the damn thing. Even if you wait until after your first nuke and you've slept him, why risk not having the MP to finish him, and fumbling with activating your two-hour? Better to just use it and be sure.

I opened with Burst II, and it did 60% of his health. Slept him and Thunder 4'ed, that was that.

If you are used to soloing, it shouldn't be too hard. Once you nuke him, he will start casting, most likely something that takes years to cast (and hopefully he does a long spell). That gives you plenty of time to ES + Sleep him.

Really the only thing you have to worry about is resists, and if that happens, I should hope you are quick enough to get a sleep off. I'd wear some Elemental Skill + gear (AF1 hands, ele torque, maybe bring some INT food) and you should be fine. I almost wish I'd had a chance to do this fight on a lower level BLM to see how it works and how much more of a challenge it was, but I waited until I was 75 and fully merited for guaranteed win. :/

Or something of the sort.

Beat him on my first try I think, but had already beat him on RDM before that.

Which is why I recommend using Manafont early, so you don't have to worry about it.

You are probably right, I don't know really.

I wasn't even thinking about winning at the time, it was a dry run (not even an mp pie on me that I remember.) But it just happened to go well so I decided to reraise (scrolls are free) and finish him off.

Just wanna add something here for the OP. After that first AM, if Maat tries to cast something powerful.. run like hell. Just turn around and run as far back as you can. Then when he chases you, feel free to use something like Sleep II or Bind to keep him inplace for the next spell.

(This is how I did it, don't know if it works for anyone else.)

Yeah I used it and didn't need it, before I even started nuking, because you never know when it will go randomly bad. I have horrible luck with conserve MP, so I wanted to be sure I'd have what it took to kill him.

First things first, get a Blink Band. They're reasonable priced, and will make the fight much easier. The band will absorb any AM or other single-target spell he throws at you, so you only need to worry about stunning -Agas.

Secondly, I think I did something like:

Freeze
Manafont
Firaga III
ES + Sleep
Quake
Aeroga III

Don't plan on casting stun at a set time, use it when he starts casting a nasty spell or starts running toward you.

I tried to do the strategy:
Buff - Food, yag, Blink Band, ice spikes, rest to full
ES + AM of the day
Sleep 2
AM which first AM was weak to
Have stun ready for any nasty nukes
Nuke (I calculated the cost of each spell so I will have just enough mp for Bio, which includes mp from yag but doesnt include conserve MP procing)
move outside circle (dont want to aggro him when I reraise)
Bio (dont want him to regen hp)
Get pwned (ran out of mp)
Reraise
Manafont
AM of the day
Maat Gives up...

What actually happend:
(Water Day)
Buff - Food, yag, Blink Band, ice spikes, rest to full
ES + Flood (not resisted)
Sleep 2 (not resisted)
Burst (note resisted)
Have stun ready for any nasty nukes
Nukes (only 1 of the beginning nukes was resisted)
Maat Gave up...
Had 57 mp left

I did that, and Maat's insane casting range caused me to eat a Firaga III getting back into the fight. I was lucky, it didn't kill me, and I was able to finish up easily enough after that. The Blink Band and stunning any -aga is a better option, I think.

Oh.. I just turned and ran like hell and I got away fine. On my first go when I didn't run far enough I ate a Firaga III aswell, one shotted me..

Just beat Maat, figured I'd share my strategy:

Firesday

Freeze > Stun > Elemental Seal/Sleep II > Vile Elixir > Flare > Manafont > Firaga III

the key to this strategy was the vile elixir. If you use Manafont too early in the fight (like I was doing and losing horribly), Maat will cast tons of tier 3 -ga spells on you. Use the vile elixir when he's asleep so you don't need to manafont, else when he wakes he will use it and unleash the fury. Happy Maating...
