the key to this strategy was the vile elixir. If you use Manafont too early in the fight (like I was doing and losing horribly), Maat will cast tons of tier 3 -ga spells on you. Use the vile elixir when he's asleep so you don't need to manafont, else when he wakes he will use it and unleash the fury. Happy Maating...

Itried Maat lastnight and got owned. I went in with the idea of using AM of the day, which wass burst, Elemental Magic wasn't capped, (7 lvs from cap) but didn't cause any issues as it hit for 600. Maat then went to cast Firaga 3 ran away no problem, Didn't expect him to run so quickly after me and due to camera angle the wrong way, got nasty suprise and got interuppted when trying to cast sleep2.

If i use elemental seal, does anyone think that sleep1 will be enough. My enfeebling skill is capped so i'm just wondering if it would work

It might work, but I'd rather the resting time from an unresisted Sleep II.

True. i tried him a couple of days ago and JUST failed. Basically i went in naked and once inside the BC put on my gear and used a blink band, intelligence potion, melon pie +1 and used Flare. Great start,m dealt 805 damage on Maat, he cast poisonaga which cancelled myt blink, no biggie as i attempted sleep2, failed 1st cast, so got distance and used ES + Sleep2 and he went to sleep like a little baby, lol, Used a yagudo drink to help with mp and used manafont, charged up freeze, and it landed for 450ish , then used stun but maat was too close for when i tried to cast firaga 3, had 10% chrge to go till i beat maat with firaga 3 but got ko'd

Now this was my fault. Basically i forgot to switch to my ice staff when casting freeze. Also i forgot to equip my wizards gloves for the fight. I should have also used the blink band again while Maat was asleep to give me cover from any of his moves. I wil try again tonight with same plan as it would have been great if i had kept to it 3rd time lucky, here i come

No. Going in naked does nothing to Maat. Period.

You might as well go in with an MP build, cast buffs, then switch to a nuke build and have less MP to heal up. Except that "cast buffs" really doesn't apply to BLM, making the MP build idea sort of useless. I guess you could have a gear swap macro for after your first nuke, but you should still want +INT even on that first nuke.

You didn't already have a Freeze macro with a staff swap? That's a macro you should have long before you even turn 60.

This is why when I first fought Maat as WHM, I made macros for everything, especially full gear swaps. I think I had 10 macros to run before doing anything to Maat, with the 10th one switching to another set. (And I tested them, too... it's never fun to find out your macro doesn't work, just as Maat is about to punch your guts out.)

Oh god, THIS.

I had an extra " in my Stun macro the first time I fought him, was not pretty at all. ate an AoE that oneshotted me instantly.

Well thanks for ll of the advice guys. I have finally beat Maat and owned him even easier than expected. This is what i done.

Enter naked on firesday
Equip all gear again and use blink band
Ate a Melon pie +1
Used an intelligence potion
cast Flare
Maat went to use flood so stuned him
ES + Sleep 2
Used manafont and used a yag drink (incase things went wrong)
Changed to aquilo's staff and used freeze on him
VICTORY!

Both AMs dealt around 700+ damage and kicked myself for not doing that in my first 2 attempts. Now im off to read about merits :D

BLM merits are simple really.

Burst II maxed
Freeze II maxed
Ice Potency 5/5
Lightning Potency 5/5

These not necessarily. If you want to unlock the other spells and then keep B2/F2 at 3 merits each, no one will fault you for it. Sometimes those other AM spells come in handy (day/weather obis come to mind).

Hmm interesting. Well i might take your advice with my merit spending here. However i'm now away from home for 2 weeks which means no more leveling for me. I just hope my LS can continue doing the prommies so when i get back i can get on with leveling the last 5 levels. At least they are aware thanks to forums so no one should be asking where i am.
