Hi there, I have some questions after my last party for my Black Mage. I was in a party with the following setup : PLD(set with THF) > THF(set with PLD) > WHM > MNK (my friend) > DRK > BLM (me) We are having a level sync party at level 68. Camp would be at Mamool Ja Staging Point right outside the staging point nearing the small hill, killing Puks. We have no refresher, but were doin fine and chaining exp chain 5 constantly. The problem starts after 10 minute the party commence. The PLD and THF along with the WHM are Jap players and they have alot of party chat goin on. After the 1st 10 minute, they were asking me not to use Ancient Magic such as Flare and Freeze. I understand their concern, since it will be a waste of mp(without refresher), so i stopped using it. But the real problem comes after they asked me to stop using Blizzard III on Iceday, Thunder III on lightning day, which i found particularly weird. Don't coressponding spells on their elemental day makes them stronger? They said will give them more tp. but to my understanding, puks are wind based monster, hence Blizzard III should be effective on them. Coupled with with Iceday, wasn't it supposed to be an added bonus? I was starting the kill with Choke, Burn and Shock, Bio on the mob. Didn't use Paralyze because it won't stick on it (capped Enfeebling Magic). Wait till 40 % for the tank to get enuf hate before i start the Tier III spell. Never draw hate, help to land the final blow, and even backup healing. Even did a few Magic Burst from the skillchain Impaction. But my Jap party member keep reminding me no Thunder NO Thunder day, NO Blizzard on Iceday, and says " Enfeebling Magic O, Healing Magic O, Elemental Magic little". Which i found weird, since a blm main job is to help deal dmg. I won't dare to say i did a good job, but my fren was laughing saying that "Maybe they don't want you to nuke at all" in /tells. My spells was not resisted much as i got alot of INT gear and food (+31). So my question is WHAT DO THEY ACTUALLY MEAN and WANT? i couldn't understand the chat they was saying in Japanese, and i don't think Puks start with full tp on iceday right? Can anyone please explain what do they mean? (;- ![]() Thanks alot PS : Only THF are doing enuf dmg, the DRK is not , and was not refreshed and mp is low most of the time. |

Puks have some weird thing where they get 100% TP if you cast a corresponding element to the day even a teir 1 nuke(IE. Blizz on ICE).

Thank you for the reply. Does this mean they(Puks) share the special trait similar to Eruca in Mt.Z? (where they start at 100% for tp at Firesday)? Will Elemental Magic (Frost) gives them full tp as well? and how bout Paralyze (ice-based)? Thanks again |

Anything that DOES damage to them on the same elemental day as the damage will cause trigger this effect. Enfeebles are OK, but I don't think stuff like Frost is, doesn't it do a bit of damage as well? (Like Bio/Dia)

Frost, Rasp, etc. are all DoT spells. Also, amazing MrMageo actually said something factual for once. I'd advise the OP, however, to take most other things he say with a grain of salt. Well, a box of salt, really. |

Kitten, did you get this month's subscription to Sodium Chloride monthly? Magoo is on the front cover, I think he's got a sponsorship deal due to increasing their sales on a scale akin to the Zimbarbwian economy.

It's true, I've verified it myself. Take a Puk down to 25% and put on the day's Enspell. It's fun. Every hit is a TP move! The Regain info on FFXIClopedia is dubious though. Wajaom Puks don't have Regain on Windsday/Lightsday for sure, too lazy to actually test for weather. BSTs should get a Puk jug. |

My Mood: | Re: Puks Tp My RDM was in Puk range before puks were in the game. My RDM sits at 65 partially because of static burn and wising up to the corner BRD had already painted me into at endgame. Also, since you need to be a RDM or BLM to nuke, there are plenty of other jobs to learn about puks on. You know, like SCH, DRK or BLU. I happen to have a 75 SCH. I usually just favored Ice Spells not on Iceday and tried to tell PTs not to make Detonation skill chains but nooooo, don't listen to the little taru healing you and giving you AoE Stoneskin. If replying to Malacite... I agree with him, the 100% TP on the day is iffy, but what Armando is saying about the HP requirment makes sense given the low HP puks have to start with. Desparation tactic. He's also been around a few times on various jobs. He probably doesn't need a BLM at that level to question it. How they regain, as Armando has stated, is fuzzy. Also, how these little bastards work - among other ToA mob - is further evidence of how alienating ToA is to mage jobs and why lots of mages hate ToA in general. I was just joking with my post BBQ, Although lots of people do not know that this takes place simply due to the lack of nuking done in ToA parties. The only way to really know is either being a mage yourself, or hearing about it through the grape vine.

Oh, no. I'm not saying the Puk needs to be at 25% or lower for the TP boost to work. It's just that above 25% HP, the mob picks an arbitrary TP# between 100 and 300 that it has to reach before it uses a TP move. Therefore, while a nuke with the day's element gets it 100 TP, it won't necessarily use TP immediately. At 25% and below, it uses its TP at 100 every time, so every single swing with Enspell will allow it to TP. *I* am not willing to test Regain because it's a huge pain in the ass for me, for a *PLD*. Put up Phalanx and Stoneskin, get it to 90% TP, and then hold it - just hold it - for a couple of minutes. It's a tremendous pain in the ass because a DC Puk can go through my Stoneskin in a relatively low number of hits, so I need to be constantly reapplying Stoneskin. All a BST has to do to test that is Charm it, wait a while and <pettp>, and other mage jobs can sleep/bind/kite them to hold 'em, which is a hell of a lot better than a 230HP Stoneskin spam. Like I said, I know for sure they don't Regain on Wind or Lights*day*. I didn't test weather, because I'm simply not willing to chase the weather to do such a tedious test when other jobs can do it so much easier. The other possibility is that Wajaom Puks don't Regain, but Mamook/Beseiged puks do (Wajaom Puks can't use the TP move Ill Wind.) By the way, Djinns have the same 100 TP boost when hit by damage of the day's element too. Edit: The funny thing is that spikes and additional effects work even though these things don't give TP. Wonder if SE considered Quick Draw. It doesn't give TP and its been known to break the rules elsewhere before, either because SE doesn't think about it or just wants COR to be the exception. Its not something I'd want to test, though, since even with /BLU, soloing those things is a pain. | |
