Hi, there. So I hit 50 last night and got freeze. It does great damage and am about to try soloing. Would you say that I should wait until 51 for the Ice Staff?

Freeze has a long recast time and it takes alot of your MP.

The way BLM soloes, is by sleeping the enemy once the nuke has landed, rest mp, repeat.

I doubt you'll be very successfull at this point, depending on what enemies you fight.

Ice Staff? Highly advisable. But that is probably not your biggest worry.

Try it for yourself though...

Probably a million times safer to wait until 51, not just for Ice Staff but for Dark Staff when casting Sleep as well.

Also, if you're going to do it, solo BST pets. Same EXP, about 1/5th the HP of the average mob.

You're gonna love having access to ele staves when you get the next level.. for reasons stated above and for the hMP boost you get from Dark/Pluto's.

I am a BLM75 yes this moderator is a dumb dude don't listen to him, you just hit the best part of lvling, let me explain that try your hardest to hit 51 as now you have the ability of Freeze and Ice staff and Dark staff, go to Gustav Tunnel at lvl 51, now your target will be a goblin beastmaster I forgot the name, I will get you that information later when I get home as I am in school right now but you will use freeze and ice staff and hopefully INT equipment followed by a cheap Melon Pie or Melon Pie+1 anyways your AM will cost you 300 something MP as you will one shot a Goblin leech gain about 6k-8k an hour and also you will be gaining about 400-500 exp on chain 4 and with empress about 600-800 exp on chain 4, well congratulations on hitting a very fun part of BLM, don't forget to sub NIN and have a lot of RR items on you as you will need them to be able to solo very nicely.

Please, try it for yourself and make your own judgement, like i said. I didnt say "dont' do it", it is highly dependant on what you fight.

You can probably solo EM and mayhap even Ts, hell, you can even solo ITs... its possible.
