Not for lack of trying mind you, if you have seen some of my other posts you will know I have an absurd number of claims & kills but no drop so far. With the maitnence today I have logged out in Onzozo near his spawn, and I think it it safe to say the goblins and cockatrice won't aggro me anymore. Nonetheless, I kow the goblins link, and as this is my first time soloing I don't really know what I should do. My first idea was to pull him away from his goblin buddies and fight fim like the Pulling the Strings manequin, and I even brought juices and ethers and even an elixer I had lying around.
This is my first time attempting to solo him and any advice would be greatly appriciated. | Originally Posted by Ellipses | | Really, it's just like pretty much every question about this game that begins with "Why." 1. He can't be stunned.... and he cast AMs
2. He's hard to silence.
3. I'm not sure if he can be slept...
4. VERY HIGH magic resistance. There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,
but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence
transform a yellow spot into the sun.

At 69, unless you're any other race other than tarutaru, you're more than likely not going to win. You're going to be competing with other people. (as much as 10 people) just to claim him, and I don't think you're going to wait for him to be in the right position, just so that you won't get a link. It's not going to happen. Trust me, it's not fun dealing with goblin links. (sleepga works, but when it wears off and you're in the middle of casting a tier 4 spell, stuff starts to hit the fan)
Moreover, the NM is highly resistant to magic. Granted you've brought medicines to replenish your mp supply, but there's a large delay after you've used them. Your best bet is to find a higher level buddy to help you out. It's just not practical trying this then getting frustrated because you've died when he was at 5% health.
Plus, as Jei said, he can't be silenced or stunned..... | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 01-14-2007, 09:45 AM | #5 (permalink) | | Loaded With Sodium Oracle of Knowledge Join Date: Jul 2005 Posts: 7,964 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 448 Thanked 1,591x in 1,001 Posts Gil: 3,635 Bank: 33,189 Total Gil: 36,824 Donate | Re: Soloing Mysticmaker Profblix I had a bitch of a time trying to silence him as RDM, so yeah. Granted it her awhile to kill him, but it's a lot more efficient than trying to solo him as blm/xxx | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 01-14-2007, 09:50 AM | #7 (permalink) | | Veteran Member Brain of Knowledge Join Date: Nov 2003 Location: Ann Arbor, MI Posts: 1,644 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 143 Thanked 37x in 30 Posts Gil: 2,605 Bank: 307 Total Gil: 2,912 Donate | Re: Soloing Mysticmaker Profblix Why couldn't a BLM with decent level in one of their weapon choices melee him down?
BLMs have a natural Enhancing Magic skill, so their Stoneskins won't be a complete waste of MP, get yourself a Scythe, Club, or Staff and beat away at it. Took me 13 times before I finally got my earring, and I went as RDM70. I actually cap'd my Enhancing Magic while camping him. (Took me two months.) I used a Hornetneedle, kept Ice Spikes up to make sure he was always Paralyzed, and just beat away. It took me a while to do it, but I only had one instance where I came close to death.
I never once was able to Silence him, so I just gave up. And considering RDMs have Magic DEF Bonus, I just kept Stoneskin and Phalanx up and the bastard never once got a AM to break my Stoneskin.
Now I know RDM soloing is much different than BLM soloing, but I saw other BLMs who solo'd it by melee with some spells mixed in.
If you have your favorite weapon up to Lv.150 or more, I think you can solo him. [font="Comic Sans MS"]Odude

But not really any more efficient. Still, links are a huge problem, and if the fight takes too long, you'll find yourself in danger of getting one.
I prefer to duo at a minimum, even as a RDM.
Onionsoldier - It's certainly doable. I don't mean to be negative or anything. If you can get the claim, and you don't have too many adds, you certainly can give it a shot. But at 69, you're going to be pushing your luck. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 01-14-2007, 10:37 AM | #9 (permalink) | | Brain of Knowledge Join Date: May 2006 Location: Colorado Posts: 1,577 Style: Light - Version 6 My Mood: Thanks: 173 Thanked 107x in 67 Posts Gil: 12,215 Bank: 52,111 Total Gil: 64,326 Donate | Re: Soloing Mysticmaker Profblix I'll just try and get sp,eone to help me later then... preferably a THF. | Originally Posted by Ellipses | | Really, it's just like pretty much every question about this game that begins with "Why." I knew that with no sleeping, no stunning, and next to no silencing, that it would be hard to do. I ended up getting help from a WHM75/NIN37 friend.
If you have a high level NPC buddy, I'd imagine that he/she could tank him. If not, bring him/her along as Soothing Healer at the least. Haggai

Still after it myself, I'm deffinatly gonna need this for the Maat fight @ 70, so I guess I'd better get busy camping this guy more...

Solo'd as a 62 rdm (Dot's ftw) and didnt have any issues, slapped some dot's and ran for zone, making sure to dodge aggro from nearby mobs, he hits like a pansy, I think i was getting hit for 40ish damage melee, and any big spells you can run out of range, or if your quick, cast the proper bar-spell.
Can also be duo'd with two lower level blm's 55-60+ range, alot more difficult, but it can be done. Though of course, as everyone else has said, any HL melee with rip him a new one w/o much difficulty.
Best of luck to you 35 blm 17 whm 20 sum 3 rdm ><; | | ::Quote Selected:: | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | All times are GMT -8.
