Re: Maat: How Important...
You can do it the old fashion way.

nuke his ass, runaway from his counter attack, watch him come, kick his rear again, repeat.

Maat is as stupid as any other mage npc in that respect.

I tried maat today, my very first ever maat fight (yes yes, and I have been playing since near NA release). My strategy was:
Flare >>> Ele Seal >>> Sleep2 >>> Manafont >>> Freeze >>> Stun >>> Sleep2 >>> -aga3
It all went well until my second sleep was resisted twice. Normally, I'm very good with sleeping things. I had dark staff and Wizard's Coat macro'd in for sleep, but I don't own a spider/enfeebling torque. Would I have won with one of tese? Should I get one?
Hmm I dunno why you would do flare then freeze o.o Freeze weakens fire resitance so I suggest at the very least switching that order around Do Freeze -> Flare D:

Re: Maat: How Important...
Well, I did it! Third time really IS the charm!

Freeze >>> ES >>> Sleep2 >>> Flare >>> Stun >>> Firaga3

I thought I was done for. The first time, you know what went wrong. Then I came back and he one-shotted me with firaga3. The last time, I came back determined and had everything in order. I thought I was dead when, instead of hitting my Firaga3 macdro, I hit dead air. He has only used poisonga and bind till now, but then he started flood. I finally for my firaga macro and prayed my spell would land first. And it did!

Heh, I know the feeling. My heart literally sunk into the ground when my elemental seal macro wouldn't go off and he was charging me with his fists. >_<

Couple draw back on using hi-ether...

Manafont not just offers 0 MP cost on your spells. It also protects you from spell interruption, like, when a cheating BLM+MNK geezer pounding on your ass while you are trying to nuke him down.

Also, there is the item lock. You are unable to take actions for a few brief seconds after you use some items. This might do you in if Maat is actively trying to put you down.

Most BLM would have enough MP for the 3 nukes anyways, if you are short, just take a yag drink and use it before you start the fight.

Another problem is that Maat regen HP very quickly when he goes back to yellow after you go down. One stradegy that I saw people doing was to apply a DoT on him after the second nuke, before the stun, so if you go down, he won't be able to regen HP before you get back up can font nuke him.

FYI, it is possible to defeat Maat in 2 shots.

HQ staves, int food, full +elem and +int gears.

I went in on a firesday, and did Flare>ES Sleep>Flood. I was going to follow up with a stun and another nuke, but he surrunder at that point.

That I did not know. I was always wondering if there's no spell interruption with manafont.

Re: Maat: How Important...
Heya,

Grats on your win.

Couple things:
First, I'm pretty sure you cannot sleep Maat twice, no matter how hard you try/what gear you use.

Second, for my fight, I brought blink band, melon pie, yag drink and scroll reraise (just incase). Ended up doing Flare >> E. Seal + Sleep >> Flood >> Win.

Blink band was nice because when I was casting sleep and he was meleeing me, he did not hit me.

Good luck everyone else trying Maat.

If FFXI Wiki is telling the truth,
Goldsmithing (80)
Yield: Zircon Ring
HQ 1: Genius Ring +1
Earth Crystal
1 x Gold Ring +1
1 x Zircon

Then again, they also say the only boost is def+3 when compared to regular one.

Re: Maat: How Important...
My strat for maat as 70 blm was Melon pie +1 and a blink band, I had regular lvl 70 gear on and actually was a little gimped with some pieces. I popped a Yag. Drink and started Firaga III >> Ele seal >> Sleep II >> Bind >> Manafront >> Burst >> Stun >> Firaga III. My bind actually got resisted but firaga went off w/o a hitch. I did get a little lucky, after burst he started casting AM, so I was able to get my Firaga III off.
