Magnetic Earing or Static Earing?
Finally defeated Promathia last night and got my Tamas Ring. /cheer

I now have my sights set on one of the two rings in the post header but am undecided which to go for, both have their own merits.

My gut instinct is that Static is the way to go but I would like some information on the vaugely phrased "Extra Damage To Magic Bursts" before I make my decision. Does anyone have any hard numbers to enlighten me with?

For those who dont know, here is the run down on those earings.
Magnetic Earing
MP+20
Conserve MP+5
Spell Interuption Rate Down 8%
MP Recovery While Healing +1

Static Earing
MND+2
Magic Defence Bonus+2
Bonus Damage To Magic Burst.

Re: Magnetic Earing or Static Earing?
Unless the Magic Burst damage is significant (measurably greater than 5%), I'd go with the Magnetic Earring, since you could always just swap in a Moldavite Earring in that slot.

Hi Icemage, was hoping you would reply to this one.

I see no reason the Static Earing could not occupy the other earing slot in conjunction with the Moldavite, do you agree?

Could you think of a better combination of Earings than Static and Moldavite?

EDIT >> Like 5 posts down was a thread on end game gear. I am guessing you woul mention
Novio Earring
Lv:75 Magic Attack Bonus+7

Feel stupid now. /Doh.

Re: Magnetic Earing or Static Earing?
In a perfect world, yes, Novio Earring. Actually GETTING one of those is the trick, however; it's quite possibly even more difficult to acquire than most fully completed relic weapons.

lol

Based on what Icemage said, which is the truth; I'd go with Static Earring unless you've got WHM too or something D;

Re: Magnetic Earing or Static Earing?
I like magnetic earring more. You'll get to use the conserve MP everytime you cast spells.
unless you like the big MB numbers.

Re: Magnetic Earing or Static Earing?
What Jei said. I'd much rather conserve MP on nukes, cures, enfeebs and everything in between, unless someone confirms that the static earing is really worth it, something like 20% more dmg might make me think twice, then again conserve+5 is really really tempting.

Plus, i happen to love hMP bonuses, im currently hunting all of the stuff i can get to boost hMP, if theres one thing stopping me to solo more stuff as BLM its the ammount of time it takes me to refill MP, and this is something i want to overcome before i even consider more damage output, which is something im completely comfortable with right now. Though i dont engage in HNM activities much, not sure what would benefit me more on those situations.

Re: Magnetic Earing or Static Earing?
Thanks for all your input guys.

You basically confirmed what I was already thinking. Its unfortunate nobody has any solid numbers on what this mysterious extra damage is

In the absence of any data I find myself compeleted to take the Static earing. I will be sure to test it out and post the results.

Re: Magnetic Earing or Static Earing?
Don't count on Novio unless you have a HNM that does Sea Jaliers 1-2x a week.

It is much easier to get than to a fully upgraded Relic though. The fastest I can see a group getting coins for a full upgrade is 250 coins/run, 2 runs/week = 34 weeks, probably less though if you are good enough to farm 2 zones at a time and have some TH3/4. All you need to do for Novio is kill JoL, which while I have not done yet (working on second set of triggers before we try), BtL on our server has a few times and they say it is relatively easy.

Re: Magnetic Earing or Static Earing?
Well had a quick chat with my Linkshell and somebody in there already has a Static Earring.

They say it provides exact same Extra Damage On Magic Burst as their AF2 Gloves. Can somebody confirm what the extra damage is on AF2 Gloves for BLM?

From Sellout.com (you all know where I'm talking about) :

Awesome Gloves

The extra damage on these gloves for MB, is truely awesome.

On golems in Shrine Of Ru'Avitau (same day, done multiple times);

Genie Manillas: 1644
Sorcerer's Gloves: 1814

I swapped out armour a few times for a test, with much the same results.

The posts which say they dont notice a difference and inaccurate, you will want these gloves. I'm telling you - they are awesome.
IF these numbers are accurate, that's almost a 10% (9.377....%) added MB bonus on the AF2 hands.

EDIT: The reason I added this information is because it's pretty much the ONLY post in the string with actual numbers. If you want to read the whole thread: click here

If it were ME, I'd go with this earring, but I'm masochistic that way.

Re: Magnetic Earing or Static Earing?
Wow, that's quite an increase...

I'm probably go with the Static, however. As a meek little Taru, I don't need the extra hate.

Re: Magnetic Earing or Static Earing?
Yah, I see this choice as:

Magnetic Earing
MP+20 usefull to all jobs that use mp, 2nd best ear slot item in the game for mp

Conserve MP+5 usefull to all jobs that use mp, only non-blm-only item to give this trait without latent effect conditions

Spell Interuption Rate Down 8% usefull to all jobs that use mp, only ear slot item with this trait

MP Recovery While Healing +1 usefull to all jobs that have mp, trait found on two other eat slot items

Static Earing
MND+2 usefull only for jobs that use white magic spells, found on standard earring

Magic Defense Bonus+2 usefull for all jobs, but its a defensive trait

Bonus Damage To Magic Burst usefull under specific circumstances for jobs that Magic Burst

Four useful mage stats that are always active while wearing it vs 1 useful mage stat that is situational, and two that are sort of meh. MND +2 and MDB are just not enough to tip the scale in favor of static for me. Now if there was a 4th stat on Static earring, maybe....

Hence, I proudly wear a Magnetic earring.

Madrone Hume Female Leviathan Server

AF+1 11/25, AF2 7/25, Nashira 1/5, Crimson 2/5, Pln 2/5, Yigit 5/5, Zenith 2/5, Shura 2/5, Askar 1/5, Goliard 1/5, Homam 1/5
