I see the chapeau being more useful for THF than it ever will be for BLM.

If a THF doesn't have an emp. pin then the +2 emnity would be a nice thing to have for SATA, and INT affects elemental WS dmg so it could be useful depending on the SC.

If you're not an idiot, the +2 Enmity isn't a big deal. Also, just for those of you who continue to say that it is +1 INT, the Chapeau is actually +2 INT. Not a huge difference, but it's something.

I have seriously never had enmity issues with this hat on.

What mhurron says is exactly what I am talking about.

Some players have no clue on how to manage hate. Just because you want to cast spells, doesnt mean you should. If you are nuking spell after spell and the mob turns to you, heres a hint: STOP.

if you dont mind taking hits as a blm or eating dirt then thats your problem. But also know that other mages have to heal you, melee have to try to get hate back. You dont only cause problems for yourself but for the 5 other people you are with. Remember those other 5 people there with you right?

the key is to to judge how you are on hate for each fight. If you let off some nukes that make the mob turn or flinch, sit back and do other things. heal, cure I some other melee, reapply debuffs. once some time has passed go back at it. not every fight will be identical. just because you nuked all fight on one crab and got no hate, doesnt mean it'll be ok on the next. judge your hate, instead of walking the line to see if you step over or not, cuz you never know, you just might get the infamous blm 1 shot.

Is the +2 INT from the Chapeau worth the + emnity for a BLM (in terms of dmg) or would it be better casting spells without it?

Back when I was leveling BLM for RDM sub there weren't any of these items aviable (which reminds me that Warp II scroll I quested is still taking space after all these time...)

+2 int isn't really going to do much at all on its own, but as others had said the +enmity won't do much either if you aren't stupid.

I realize I'm perhaps more the exception than the rule, but I leveled up a couple of lowbie jobs after I had just changed my allegiance to Windurst to save CP for my Master Caster's Bracelets. I was rank 1, in Valkurm, with top notch gear. If someone had called me a gilbuyer, it would have pissed me off.

I have all +1 gear and I'm rank 2. But this isn't my first character. If someone wants to assume I'm a gilbuyer, they can suck it. I'm not here to explain myself to other people.

This topic is a little old, guys... <.<;;; Kinda died out, so I haven't been checking it.

1) If you're playing well as a BLM with good gear, I know you aren't a noob. If you are casting elemental enfeebs "to raise your enfeebling skill," spamming thundagas and getting hate every battle, PLUS you're in +1 gear, PLUS you're wearing +enmity gear, I am going to assume you're an idiot who bought gil.

2) If you're doing your job as a blm (ie, casting elem enfeeble at beginning of fight, MBing, and light nuking toward middle or end) and you're egtting hate away from the tank, take the hat off. I'd rather have -2 int than death.

3) Like I said, it isn't about JUST rank or JUST gear. it's a combo. If you have great gear, a low rank, and suck at your job, I'm sorry but odds are not in your favor as far as gil-buying goes.

The rest of the Baron's gear has decent stats. It's nice if you're leveling multiple mage jobs concurrently and have inventory issues or something.

It's holy ampule, not holy phial, u n00bzor. Holy phial makes the oppo-oppo necklace work slower.

(Yes that was a joke, and yes, it took me three weeks to get my marble to drop anyway, and no I was not wearing an ampule. But I was wearing a phial!)
