Yes!!!
They are highly demanded for BCNM50 battles, because they can tame the white mandoragora and make their party more likely to beat all the mandoragoras, which are rumoured to have become more powerful than before.

The most difficult thing for them is to get level up to more than LV40 so that they can take part in the NM battles.
They can even keep playing solo until the NM battles, or help only their best friends that have assisted them while levelling for the NM battles.

Uhh.. what about the KFY on the AEJP? Don't use a AOP69 with your RRTAFQ-EDDZW22.5

In other words..

What is BCNM50 and NM?

NM = Notorius Monster (Named)

BCNM50 = Special Boss-esque battle that requires 50 Beast coins to enter. There are also BCNM99s too, though those are generally more difficult.

Kosh, beast coins are dropped by monsters all around the world, but the drop rate is pretty low. The easiest and most efficient way to obtain them is by soloing with low leveled characters. The coin will also drop while you're in parties as well, but then you'll have to lot for the item against five other people and the chances of you getting it will be reduced to 1/6, which isn't that good since the coins is rather uncommon (but not rare).

And, no, Beast Tamers are not the only ones that can get the coin. Anyone can get it.

It sounds like a lot of work to get 50 or 99 coins just for one chance to fight a boss... what is the reward to these battles? A special item? A lot of exp? It sounds interesting...

For BCNM battles, the typical rewards are special items, spells, etc. Based upon what enemies you fight in them. Even though 50/99 BCs sounds like a lot to get, you'll find they drop pretty often...especially when you're soloing and leveling your lower levels and you're killing thing at a fast rate...

Ive seen some BST's fighting solo and i must say that i was IMPRESSED! to say the least. So to answer gotan25x's first post, they are a very playable class if you like soloing but its not for everyone, alot of ppl im sure would think it to be extremely boring -_-
