I love Bst, but I am Having Problems

Hello, I am Spy from the server Quetzalcoatl ( had to copy past spelling lol )

I have played alot of jobs and got them all to around 30's or so just to see what I liked best. I thought it was Thief but that is a different story. Any way I am lvl bst and loving it to death, but I have run into some problems and was wondering if you guys can give me some pointers.

1-10 was easy enough just like any other job.
10-17 same as 1-10
17-20 is where bst is tricky for me.

I find me self at lvl 18 at north-west side of valkrum dunes trying to solo but I have lvled to 19 four times so far. This is due to my pet breaking or i am to weak to finish off the pet and die. Now i looked around and get alot of mixed messages about how to solo. I am sending my pet in and letting it attack for a little to get aggro then going in and helping it out. Is this how i am sposed to solo? Thanks any tips would be great.

Re: I love Bst, but I am Having Problems

Hey I'm leveling BST at the mo too, it's 27 at the moment. I actually found that exping off EP in la theine or on lizzies/rabbits was easier/ a lot faster than taking on DC/EM at a lower level.

Also this is a helpful thread: BST guide to lvl 30

EDIT: also I don't know if I'm doing it right either but I go in attack the same time as my monster, I find it easier if I tank but I'm sure that will change as I level.

18~19 in the dunes seems a little low for BST, I know I didn't go there before 21~22.

If you insist on going there, stick to rarabs and crabs.

Also, what are you subbing?

I find Blue Mage is extremely powerful and by far the best sub job to use unless you really need to avoid damage or need status cures. You'd be amazed at how much one Sprout Smack can change a battle.

/RDM isnt bad. But right now you want to be /WHM.

/RDM is probably only really nice at cap level.

Re: I love Bst, but I am Having Problems

There is a leveling guide on Wiki that suggests going dunes at 15, this proved to be an absolute nightmore for me too. Soon scrapped that idea and went to Buburimu, sat outside the outpost and pop a new training reigme each time its up.

I'd say your better off staying thre until 17, then heading to Shakhrami maze until 19/20.

Guides aren't 100% reliable.

What works for some people may not work for others, always take the guides with a grain of salt.

Re: I love Bst, but I am Having Problems

Besides, Valkurm and Buburimu are roughly the same level range, just a different set of mobs ... I remember there being a solo guide on the wiki, and there were usually multiple possibilities for various levels.

Re: I love Bst, but I am Having Problems

Though BST is mostly a solo type job, at that level, you can also join parties as a straight DD. At 23, you can get Jug pets and boost your damage even more.

Also, you can just straight solo without charming until 20 like any other job.

As for sub, I used WHM to 24, then switched to nin. I used that all the way til 75. It isn't everyone's favorite, and there are trade offs. But it worked well for me.

Though when I leveled, BLU wasn't available yet, but, as Malacite said, as a low level sub, it is hard to beat, especially with all the bonuses you get from spells.

The solo guide on the wiki is pretty good. But use is as a guide, not as a bible.

Re: I love Bst, but I am Having Problems

RDM is extremely niche and fails IMO compared to WHM NIN and BLU as a sub.

WHM gets you the same buffs as /RDM (except enspells and phalanx) and much sooner, as well as more MP and status healing spells (the main reason for subbing it in the 1st place)

NIN will get you shadows to avoid damage and dual-wield to boost your Dot. Like WHM you also get sneak and invisible (though in the reverse order Oo)

BLU sub is extremely powerful IMO. Sprout Smack will allow most DC pets to take out a T all on their own, never mind cocoon and wild oats. Headbutt is still viable as well since all physical spells are based on your main weapon's accuracy. You won't do much if any damage later on with your spells but that's not the point;

The idea is to enfeeble the mob so your pet can go to town on it. /BLU also provides quite a hefty CHR boost from equipping spells.

Re: I love Bst, but I am Having Problems

That is why RDM has its use Malacite, it has some nice debuffs and en-spells. It does have its use but I wouldnt personally use it.

RDM is REALLY usefull in atleast one situation though: killing Djinn, since they self-destruct when you nuke them with the same element as that of the current day.

Re: I love Bst, but I am Having Problems

Yeah that's been the only time I've used /RDM (and even then /SCH and /BLM work just as well) but the debuffs can't be all that helpful given you don't have any native enfeebling skill.

This is why BLU is so damned broken since your magic skill doesn't matter worth a damn on physical spells.
