So... I'm a Taru BST and do roughly 1/3 of CC's damage. Also I'm lvl 75 with Whm sub.

I at least want to get closer to CC's damage output

So, my question is... how do I help bridge the gap between this huge amount??

I'd prefer NM drops or buyable items, because i still don't have sky or sea, but if you want to mention those too, that's fine.

Either way, my set up is

Main - Pick of trials
Shield - Tariqah
Head- Optical Hat
Body - Hauberk
Back - Psilos Mantle
Waist- Life Belt
Hands - Bison Wristbands
Neck - Merman's gorget
Pants - Royal Knight's Breeches
Legs - Dance shoes
Rings - nothing speical, just charm gear
Earrings - Spike earring and charm gear

With this, I have:
+44 accuracy
+30 Attack
+7 DEX
+7 STR

So, what can i do to improve?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but Trial Weapons generally aren't the best there are. Soon as you get Decimation, you may find it worthwhile to go after a Maneater or something.

Do you have a macro for charm that has all your charm gear in it? Also need a melee set, and a weaponskill set.

If you have the money, you should get dusk hands and feet along with a W Turban and Swift Belt (assuming you are that far in CoP).

oohh wow, i had no idea those Spiked Finger Gauntlets were out there, i totally missed that. The Merman earring is nice too, and I didn't know about the hidden effect of the Maneater. I'll pick a few of those up!

The gauntlets and assault earring are both from bcnms. You should have plenty of beast and kindred seals from leveling bst unless you already used them all.

Drop the /whm if you can. war, sam, drk, nin. Nin seems to trump 99% of all exp camps. That is except if your facing mobs with aoe, in that case Whm is the best. Though you can really boost your DD with mane/juggy or wood/mane combo.

but /whm goes like this for me.

Main = Juggy Str+3, atk+30.
off hand = Tatami Shield Str+5, Killer effects
Head = (fine if your acc is problematic,)

Back = Forager mantle Str +3, Atk +15 or Amemt Mantle+1 Str+2, Atk +15

Thick Mufflers = Atk +3, Acc+3
Neck = Chivalrous Chain Str+3, Acc +5

Feet = Ogre Ledelsens Atk +10
Ring = Ruby Ring x2 Str +8
Earring = Spike is fine or Mermans earring

Anyways so after all that I give you. I even included stats if you were to avoid going with the costly juggernaut for Maneater

Strength
Abbreviation: STR

A stat that is compared with an enemy's vitality to determine the base damage of a character's attacks. This stat is very important to almost all physical damage dealing jobs. Strength also has a direct impact on a character's attack and Ranged Attack. For every 2 points STR increase a character has, his/her attack and Ranged Attack value is raised by 1 point.

Rampage Modifier Str 30%

Anyways most of this gear I listed is fulltime DD gear. YOu really don't have to swap out anything much to put in a decent rampage return. If you wanted too, hands would most likely be it.

Don't get Spiked Finger Gauntlets! Unless you do a lot of level cap (60) stuff. Otherwise get Tarasque Mitts, 80k on my server compared to 300k of Spiked Finger Gauntlets on my server. It's a 2 attack difference


Oh, and depending on what you're fighting, you'll never match CC's damage as on much lower level mobs you'll never reach the high attack of a CC vs a wild moment. This is especially true if farming, due to how pet/mob mechanics work compared to players.

I.e. Call a CC out in South Gustaberg. Send it vs a level 1 bee. It'll probably do 300 odd damage, whereas if you try to hit the bee you'll probably land for 150~ odd damage. There's a damage cap for low level mobs dependant on your pet and yourself. I forget the real mechanics unfortunately of how it all works but you can run around to test it.

If you're /whm, you're probably not fighting things that require a lot of acc (pure DDs only wear 50-60 acc against low IT mobs so you'd probably be fine if you dropped some for +attack).

I'm pretty cheap, so here's my "cheap path to upgrades" thoughts:

You can get the cheap tarasque mitts and the ogre feet for a quick attack +20.

Potent belt and Chiv Chain are overrated. They're certainly nice, but lifebelt + R.G. collar will function good enough (I'd put priority on obtaining Chiv over Potent, though). Though in your case, given what I said about acc... even a good ol' Swordbelt could be nice if you don't have swift.

Speaking of, Turban + Swift is a nice and relatively easy way to improve DPS, though it'll still look like you're hitting weakly.

Get some str+4 rings or something since you're not charming when you're smacking and you're really not in need of the acc.

Building for a very STR/attack-heavy set up has a few benefits. First, as I mentioned, you don't need much of the missing acc when you're solo. Second: if you ever party with it, just eat sushi and you get to use the same DD set up (But don't sub WHM!!).

Also, last I knew, Maneater pretty much always out-DPSes Jugger.

I'd also like to call attention to the Iron Ram Pick. This is a very cheap stepping-stone to maneater/woodville/jug. If you're doing anything /nin and only have 1 good axe (I'd aim for maneater), this is your cheap and very effective offhand. Very nice DPS and attack+10.

I know people say Mane slightly out DD's Juggy. But the P log showed I was actually out DD'ing and Ws'ing my fellow Bst in the same gear and merits (except for axe merits which I am 4 lower then they are) When I was main handing the Juggy vs one with a Mane.
