New bst ------- Must have gear?
Hi all

I have recently decided to steer away fom my RDM main and make my BST my main for a while. I have lvled bst/whm to lvl 16 and am doing ok but could be better. Was wondering from all you experienced BST out there what is the must have BST gear that I should have as a minimum to make me an effective BST.

Re: New bst ------- Must have gear?
The beauty of BST is that you can play it any way that you like. My BST is still mid-level, and what I've been focusing on would be my charm gear set and my melee gear set. Other than the charm stuff, I focused on what ever gear I could get that gave me the most defense. ....and att+ stuff.

IMHO, I think that the single most important piece of gear that you could get would be any piece of gear that will give you more CHR. I personally don't scrimp on that gear. If I find something that has more, I do my best to acquire it. Standard rings? Nope. I'd take the upgraded version. Weapons that have CHR lumped onto them? I'd take the one that had the most CHR that I could equip. Maybe my logic is really screwed here and I need to be corrected, but my personal thought on this is "I'm a BST. Is too much CHR overkill? ....didn't think so."

I'm sorry if this is as incoherent to you as it is to me atm, as I'm a bit tired and in need of a nice pillow.

Doesn't this really say it all? ><

I agree with Wovendarkness- get in the habit of having CHR gear and fighting gear. The CHR is obvious, load up on it and macro your equipment changes.
The fighting gear can be Def or Atk, however you like to play it. Now that we have snarl, you can go with STR and ACC gear because you can unload hate and not worry about damage- if you are using jug pets. If you are using charmed pets, then you will probably get hit more often so Def and Vit are more suitable. In all cases, have the best axe or scythe you can carry at your level, sometimes you need the damage for that last sliver left when your pet dies.

Re: New bst ------- Must have gear?
Aim for survivability first, and then increasing kill speed second.

Survivability:
While defense might seem important, you should to not get hit at all. This means equipping a good amount of CHR. CHR will help you land charm, and I've also read that it can help increase the proc rate of Killer effects (when you intimidate a mob). Aside from that, I try go equip +evasion and decent defense gear.

Kill speed:
Once you have a good set of gear for charming, you can then focus on DD gear. You could let your pet do all the work while you fight in just your charm gear. But as you get higher in level, your pets will be able to hold hate better, thus allowing you to do more damaging as well.

For building TP, the traditional advice is Accuracy > Attack > STR > DEX.
For performing WSs, the traditional advice is Accuracy > STR / Attack > DEX.

Exceptional pieces of gear:
At level 50, you'll want to get a Gaudy Harness. The +CHR is nice, but the refresh latent is the awesome part about it. It kicks in any time you are below 49 MP. Getting a Gaudy Harness can totally change the way you play as a solo BST.

At level 51, you'll want to get a Light Staff / Apollo's Staff. It's not obvious from the item's description, but they give a direct % increase to your charm success rate. They will do more for Charm than any amount of CHR ever can.

Re: New bst ------- Must have gear?
I've been doing BST and I've found that Scythes are a good choice of weapon for a BST up to 20. I did Bronze Zagnal +1 to 10 then Legionairre's scythe since. What weapon have you been using? These equips should be good at 20...

Weapon: Monster Signa
Head: Noble's Ribbon
Neck: Bird Whistle
Body: Garrison Tunica
Ring: Hope Ring +1 x 2

These seem to be the best CHR gear at 20. I'd go full on ACC+ ATK+ DEF+ gear for the other slots. IMHO

Re: New bst ------- Must have gear?
I think most things have been said already,

The equips Evion listed are the most important to a bst, The only thing is a monster signa or garison tunica can be a bit costly depending on your server. Allthough the signa can be aquired from an NM

Hoo Mjoo the Torrent

He is found in giddeus at H10 you have to drop down the hole to get there. just keep killing the yagudo medicant's in the area, Yagudo have a spawn time of roughly (10 minutes?)

He'll Spawn once every 1 - 3 game days so that three hours I think, I've been going after him too, I got 4 claims in a row but no drops so far and can be heavily camped at times especialy by higher lvl players. You'll kill him easily at around lvl 25 and he'll use Benediction also, if you get the drop it will last you until you aquire a light staff.

The hope rings are a bargain I got mine for 10K each which is probably alot but considering they are good until lvl 36 its a good investment.

on the plus side you can make money from bees there at lvl 35 /thf I get a beehive chip from every other bee almost.

as for armour I used

17 - Lizard gear
21 - Beetle armour
24 - I bought a pair of greaves
27 I got steam scale mail body piece
30 - I used centurions gear and at 35 am working on my rse

The only other advice I can give is use an axe thats a little under what your level is, I used battleaxe from 20 - 32 I could melee and not steal hate.
When you approach Qufim you'll start to feel like a real Bst saving people from the wights.

This isnt Gospel for a bst just what worked for me, I hope it helps you

Good luck fellow bst

I wanna see a Mithra girlband "Atomic Kitten" anyone?

Re: New bst ------- Must have gear?
I have to mention Battle Gloves, they can be obtained by a chest in King Ranperre's Tomb(sp). Accuracy +3 is allways nice. Also if you go there give spook a swing since he drops a nice back piece.
