Time to get from...
I have a friend that wants to duo BST with me. He's around LV 10 BST right now. So I was wondering ( if you can remember  ) about how long did it take you/do you think it would take to LV from LV 10 BST to around 20-24 if played BST say about 4-5 hours a day?

Thanks to anyone that can answer this. ^^

I'm not sure how long it would take. Bst solo or duo at low levels will still be an extremely rough time. I think the only advice I can give anyone who is interested in this job to is to have DEDICATION. Fact is if you constantly play bst for several hours every day, try not to die as much (although dying while playing bst is unavoidable), and do those exp escort quests each week, then you will slowly, but sure gain exp and levels.

If you are looking to play catch up, you could always powerlevel your bst so no risk of death, but I wouldnt normally recommend it because you wont be able to get used to how BST ~really~ works, and experience mistakes and learn from them. Getting to 25 was pure hell... I think being PL'ed would take away from the learning experience.

Also, somewhat offtopic, and dumb question... who gives you the Escort Quests? Wouldnt mind doing it with my RDM and using the EXP on another job. Thanks.

You can do 1 escort per week for only 1 nation. Reward is random..around 800-1499 exp each time you use the paper. For first timers, you get a nifty 10k gil as well.

Anyway, each nation has its escort npc. In sandoria, it's some elvaan in the inn at S.Sandoria. In Bastok, Trilok in Port Bastok inn..and in Windurst, a mithra npc standing in front of the Star Onions warehouse at Port Windurst.

These escorts normally require other members to complete. Windurst, for example, is an escort in Garlaige..so you'll need 3 others in your PT to help open the gates. On the good side, if other members have this escort, you can do the escort once and they'll complete it too.

Sandoria escort is in Eldieme and Bastok escort is in Crawler's Nest. I normally do Bastok escort solo with my Bst since everything in there can be charmed. Charm aggro mob, send npc up, release pet far behind, continue escort path....so easy. :spin:

Cool, thanks a lot for the info. Think i could do crawlers as 65rdm/48 bst? How deep into nest do you have to go? Would I have to cross crawler hunters and knight crawlers? If so, maybe I'll stay clear for now. Also does the NPC attack everything in sight, or only aggro mobs that cme after it?

That depends on your luck. Escort npcs usually take a set path that goes deep into an area. Bastok escort for example goes a set path for a while--after starting, it will drop down from the 1st drop and always head to the scorpion room. After passing through the scorpion room, it now randomly choose 3 paths--there's a long route, medium route, and short route. The short route it usually goes takes it to the north passage. Along the way, there is 1 scorpion and a bunch of soldier crawlers that will aggro. After that, it will drop into a room filled with lizards that will also aggro. Finally, it will go a short distance to a room with exorays and that's is its final destination. Speaking from a Bst standpoint, that is a very short and easy-to-charm and manage route. The other two routes for example will take the npcs to places with knight crawlers and crawler hunter scorpions...so yeah, to answer your question, there is a chance you will have to cross those mobs that you mentioned.

Personally, I like Bastok escort (Crawler's Nest) mainly because any high lv Bst can solo it. Other escorts require other members to hit switches and such. Give other escorts a try too if this one doesn't suit your taste.

I'll let you do the math. At your level, you'll get around 1.5k to 2k exp/hour.

PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS. Anywho, I usually go with my LS on Sundays. On my LS, we have a PLD74/BST37, WHM72/BST36, and myself (BST63). I can tell you, subbing BST lowers your charm rate to nothing. The PLD has a higher CHR base and +CHR, and a light staff then me, but he was failing charms.

Also, without having a lvl.70 job, you won't be able to release. So unless you feel like training to PT (have ruining your reputation), i recommned you don't.

D'oh, forgot about the inability to release pets. Guess Ill pass on that. So I could probably duo this with a lvl 62+ BST no problem then right?

TRY SOLOING BST IN THE HIGHLANDS WHILE SEEKING. MOST TIMES YOU CAN GET IN ON A OK VALKUM PT.. TO GET TO 20-24. MAYBE A WEEK TOPS. I KNOW TODAY I WENT FROM 10-ALMOST 13.

Nin75, Bst75. Drk61, War61, Rdm40, All other jobs are 37. All 3 starting city missions completed. All Zilart missions completed. All CoP missions completed. TouA completed.

BST subs work great; do a search on posts around here for some info.

the only thing is that your charm rate will depend highly on your BST lvl as well; the formula that's usually given is that your charm rate is equivalent to (Main Job LVL + (Main job lvl OR BST job LVL, whichever is lower) ) / 2. i.e. if you have a lv70rdm and a lv70bst you will have charming capabilities comparable to that of a 70bst. if you have a 70rdm and a 35 bst you'll have 70+35=105/2=a ~lv51's charm ability. the actual rate is slightly lower, but Skilling up using EM birds while my blm was at 74 I had absolutely no problems, as long as i used proper CHR boosts and a light staff.
