Endgame BST: HNMs and such, what do they do?
I've been very interested in starting this job, but my main discrepancy is what they do endgame. Ill take the Lv Grind to 75, but what then? Do BSTs play a signifigant role in HNM Battles? What about The God Battles? The Endgame missions? I dont mind being a soloer up to 75, but HNM battles are something I have been very interested in ever since I started the game. If any high-level BSTs can tell me what sorts of things they do at their level to enjoy the game, it would be greatly appreciated ^^.

I'll have you find you lily's post sometime.

But I can tell you, on my server, I saw a BST75/NIN37 going into dynamis. Apparently, he's suppose to charm/bind spam mobs or something.

But it's all WAR, to the bitter end. Every single time.

In my HNM LS, my role is pretty much a supporting a role. My LS only use me for two jobs: Bst and Brd. As a Bst, my duty is to pull hard-to-pull mobs as well as providing additional damage from both my pet and myself. If there is an aggro or link, I am assigned to (1. distract the uncharmable mob with my pet while the rest of my LS kills the HNM or (2. charm the mob link and release far away from my group.

In God fights, a Bst role is slightly different. In those situations, having a non-capped or best pet jug is crucial. Since I'm lv 75, I usually have 1 or 2 amigo sabotender jugs available. My role as a Bst during God fights is to be a support healer while I send my pet up to fight. My own Bst damage for these battles are too low to make a difference or I either miss a lot. I usually have a sword handy for that initial 300tp Spirits Within.

For these raids, I use all the +mp equipment I have at my disposal. These include the bison set, 2 astrals, +50 mp republican gold medal (Bastok rank 8 cp item) and the new Lv. 70 tamer's gloves. So I'm usually in the back with the mages helping them with Hp healing and status cures while my pet does the physical damage with the rest of the attackers. Pet damage vs. Gods is quite impressive too I might add. If you have a cactuar pet, then there's also a 33% chance your 'sic' will be 1000 needles..so that's 1000 damage regardless.

In certain fights like Fafnir, a Bst is not needed...unless someone in my LS accidentally aggros a spider while waiting for it to pop. There was one instance though that our PLD provoked a darter instead of Fafnir. Luckily, I was there to charm and release to reset hate.

My other role is a BRD. I'm sure you and the rest of the people here know what a BRD's role is in an HNM LS so I won't delve into it any further. However, I play both BRD/WHM and BRD/BST. I use BRD/BST in places where there are already too many mages (RDMs) present at an HNM. I might not be able to successfully charm as well as a BST main, but I can easily lullaby the mob and try again and again if necessary. If successful, then my LS members get an additional pet damage.

Xythalia pretty much summed it up well.

The only difference is for the tulia god fights (in ru'aun and Kirin), I'll probably sub /war and try to have a stab at fighting alongside the other melee. To be honest I never considered going the /whm route and being a support healer. Would probably be quite useful (especially with the aoe paralyze some of them do). But I don't have 2 astral rings or other mp boosting gear. :-\

Xythalia is right tho, the pet dmg is not that bad at all, but if I'm lucky and get min/mad from a bard my hit ratio can be somewhat consistent on Kirin (with songs, berserk and food I think my atk gets to around 630), though I know I'll never compare to a drk per se. I used to sub /sam and just churn out 300% tp Spirits Within every 15 minutes on the very first few Kirins we did, but it's a little boring not being in the thick of the action, as you might suspect. ;o

I think a bsts role is not as clearly defined as other jobs, but we definitely have uses. Virtually any event your ls goes on that has high lvl mobs, gives bst a potential to help out. Hakutaku hunt and controlling adds with charmed Millioneyes, or helping out in a similar way on Bomb Queen hunts, or charming a Darter that someone's accidentally claimed while trying to get Fafnir. ;p

Actually, Xythalia while you're here.. ;p

Don't you find that if you go brd/bst you can charm pretty well? According to the theory of already having bst lvled, you should be seeing good results since yours is 75 too. Is that the case? Or do you still have problems?

From what I saw, I can still charm pretty well as Brd/bst. I was able to charm those even match-decent demonic pugils constantly when my LS went to camp Ungur and Amikiri in Gustav. I used 'Gauge' and it said I "should" be able to charm on those pugils. Antares was mixed--got "might" and "difficult" to charm. I think it's because Brd have more +chr equipment available to them to offset the slight charm handicap as compared to Bst. Unlike Bst, Brd can also use the errant robe and jester's cape. Errant alone is like +10 more chr and cape gives another big chunk of +chr. Another big reason is I recently upgraded to apollo staff as well. So in my case, I'm getting good charm results as Bst SJ mainly because Brd has good natural CHR bonuses and a lot more +chr equipment readily accessible.

Thx for replying.

I wish those Antares were even match, hehe. They're all 76-77 or something like that. :x

Question:

Have either of you ever tried subbing THF, loading up on STR+INT equipment, and doing SATA + Spiral Hell?

Obviously wouldn't use Scythe throughout the whole fight, but just at the start after building up 300% from surrounding mobs.

I'm very interested in how much damage it would do, but nobody I have asked has tried it.

300 tp Spirits Within seems to be more consistent damage and doesn't require the extra effort to get behind a mob. Then again, I'm interested how much damage 300 tp spirial hell would do too. :sigh: Back to more scythe skill up for me! 180 scythe skill now...

Well I have Spiral Hell but not thf at 37.

SA+Spiral Hell does a nice amount tho while farming the cockatrices in onzozo at only 100% tp, so I imagine it could be quite respectable with everything else up to speed.

I've been making a huge effort to skill up scythe as well as axe when I exp. I think I'm doing reasonably well so far. I just hit 49 last night, and I capped my axe again in only 800-900 exp into level. Learned Spinning axe, and now I'm back to Scythe again (133) I'm hoping to be able to get Vorpal Scythe as soon as its available, but it will require quite a bit of work. I will need 17 skill points in 2 levels ><

Although, the reason I even mention all this is because I see a level 75 BST with Scythe skill underleveled, it makes me think its probably unreasonable to think I can keep mine leveled as well as axe... probably harder the higher level you get.

Not all bsts, we just don't have enough but a large alliance of NA and Japanese bsts with a support crew of whms and others.

Was a lot of fun.
