| Junior Member | Light stave hidden trait: increase charm success rate?
So if any of you ROM the BST threads in Shitaraba, you'll have noticed that a few threads ago there were discussions of light staves having a hidden effect of increasing charm success. After looking into the sales records... yep, a lot of bsts've bought into this... ...as have I. I can't tell since I'm too lazy to do actual testing, but it _seems_ like things can be charmed much easier than the signa which I also bought recently. Of course, this also ties in with another rumor which'd be that darkstaff decreases charm success (since charm is a light element ability). The final conclusion that came about on the thread over there is, "if you think it helps, use it." People desparate to sell light staves can put up bogus info anyway, so this is something that we have to decide / gather info for ourselves anyway. If you happen to have a bit of extra cash lying around though (I didn't, but sold some old crap I didn't need to make the money), it might be worth investigating. To me it seems like it does a hell of a lot more than that monster signa. |

well hidden or not, can you tell us what happens when you see a hard to charm mob that gagues as say "difficult" and then regague it with the light staff on to see what it says? Then plop on the signa and see if that changes to "might"? I'm curious if it would affect things too and that gague would probably be the easiest if not best way to actually test things.

interesting... not too long ago i was lvling in Boyahda and Riskycat(super god taru bst that charmed Ose on Fairy -- saw it with me own two eyes) was equiped with an Apolo Staff (HQ of Light). I thought since he was so elite that he had connections to go join in on Fafnir/Nidhogg kills. BTW, Fafnir was due soon. Yet, maybe he was just....doing something, but none the less he had an Apolo Staff equipped. I'm really curious now about this. Someone should test this out ^^ |

This was posted in a JP BST forum: (My translation) --- Someone tested both Monster Signa vs Light staff. BST63 trying to charm a lv65 Robber Crab (had a BRD65 friend to see if they're same level). Without any Charm+, CHR+ to test the success rate of charm with Signa, Light Staff and no weapon. Test date - Fire day, Earth day. No Weapons - Tested 100 times, success 54 times (54% success) Signa - Tested 200 times, success 125 times (62.5%) Light Staff - Tested 200 times, success 143 times (71.5%) --- (The following may not be verified) Their conclusion is that there are 3 types of enemies: 1. Monsters who has resistance vs Charm: - Raptor, Opo-opo, Slime, Cactaurs 2. Monsters who are strong against light: - Crawlers, Mandragoras, Saplings (oppositely, weak to light monsters include bats) 3. Monsters who has high CHR to resist - Birds, Crabs (oppositely, low CHR monsters include Scorpions) With those monsters 1. Would be hard to charm with any weapons. 2. Would be easier to charm with light staff. 3. Would be easier to charm with Monster Signa |

sounds like pretty much the same thing that was on the BST site (bst.boo.jp). Basically, you can look at that all you want... but there's a chance that it was just some BS data. VS mandies in boyahda it "feels" better to me, so I'm going to continue using it. so again there, it could just be something that affects monster by the element (i.e. having the same element staves as the mob increases charm rate). and again, it could be somewhat different. It's viable that there's a hidden effect, and it's also viable that the checking ability is whack as well. I recall seeing another post a while back about birds in Ruaun gardens conning as "difficult" with no bird whistle on and a flower necklace, and "might" with flower off and bird whistle on (both have CHR+3). And no, that wasn't tested either. and there still lies that possiblity that all this was some ploy by chocobo diggers that wanted to get rid of some elemental ores. I go charming mobs assuming that it'll fail charm anyway, so I dont really care either way, heh. |

Doesn't the light staff have a +1 CHR on it? So, doesn't that help increase charm success rate? |

Hah, there we go. Thanks for the pics. For a real test, they'd have to compensate for the +1 CHR that the staff gives them. Use some kinda of cheap arse +1 CHR ring that costs 2k gil or something. |

rofl no. Amement woudl rape Ose, except for the whole paralyzing part and apparently Amement is charmable. There is this very nice JP BST on my server that let me and some of my friends use his Kraken Club. I have seen him countless times at the Amement spawn. Well, one day he was there and I wasn't but he died and msgs me "Amement charm fail ; ; death Dejavu ww" .....he was trying to CHARM IT?! lol. also, apparently someone from my HNM LS has seen Amement charmed as well. |
