Re: Quicksand Caves*

Level: 53
Camp: Had to shift camp several times due to exp parties camping on top of me. On the first map, I camped in J-5, E-5, and the tunnels connected to the Centurio XI room (H-10).
Exp: 2k/hr without Empress

Main target for me were the Anticans [52-???] (and Sand Eaters [51-???] when I could). Most bestiaries list the level cap for the Ants and the worms as 59, but I’m pretty sure the mobs on this map don’t reach that high of a level.

The worms make for some nice and fast experience as they have really low defense. These worms do not agro, but they do link; so be careful of other worms that may be close by.

As for the Anticans, there are three different ones: Princeps [PLD], Hastatus [WAR], and Signifier [BLM]. I recommend targeting the Hastatus and the Signifier as much as possible, because the Princeps has relatively high defense, although sometimes you you cannot avoid them. Also, the Signifier can deal a lot of damage with AOE black magic and the Princeps will Cure III/IV itself; thus I recommend subbing WHM for Silence (I was able to stick silence about 50% of the time).

When in the J-5 camp, use both the Sand Spiders [51-55] and Helm Beetles [51-???] as pets against Ants in the big room connected to the corridor (there are no worms in this camp). In E-5, only beetles are available as pets and fight the Ants in the room and the worms and Ants down in the tunnel in G-7. Finally, in H-10 only spiders are available as pets against the Ants and worms in the Centurio room and adjacent tunnels.

Went to Bostaunieux Oubliette at 54.

Re: Quicksand Caves*

I believe that if you enter QSC via Eastern Altepa Desert, you'll come across lower ranged monsters, whereas if you enter QSC via Western Altepa Desert, you'll come across higher ranged monsters. I'm not 100% sure, but that would account for why the monsters have such large level ranges listed on somepage.
