It depends. He almost always gives up, but sometimes if you use a weapon skill to finish him off you can get him down to 0%. I've never seen or heard of someone who actually had to fight him to 0, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happens.

Hi guys, here was my winning bard fight strategy:


Main weapon: Monster Signa for Soul Voice and Paeon Five and Three (AH didn't have Paeon Four)
Rune Blade for attacking
Head: Blink Band (Although I forgot to use it ><)
Body: Scorpion Harness Borrowed from a friend, I'd say it's a must have for this fight, see bellow
Back: White Cape +1
Hands: Devotee's Mitts
Ring: Moon ring X2
Legs; Choral Cannions (BRD AF LEGS)
Feet: Coral Slippers (BRD AF FEET)
Ear: Melody Earring X2
Flute: Traversiere +1

As you can see my equipment is very meger at most.

Preperation:

Cap your sword skill in skill up party. Dagger is pretty much useless here and I lost two maat fights in part of it.

Strategy:

Soul Voice lasts for 3 minutes, as do the Army Paeons. Cast soul voice, then do the double paeon, then equip your sword.

Scorpion Harness is a good friend here because you will be using Army Paeon instead of accuracy and attack.

Stock up on potions. I had an inventory full and used every last one.

Use Carnage Elegy and Foe Requium on him.

If your spells go off don't bother re-singing them, it wastes a lot of time and believe me maat won't stop hitting just for you to sing.

I used a potion whenever my HP got into the yellow. I only had about 950 HP for this fight.

I also used an icarus wing. I didn't use opo opo as it seemed like a rip off.

Result:

Thanks Prons for sharing your experiences for Bard Maat fight ( which is rare and far between or at least for guidance I notice. I will be fighting Maat soon with my Bard as it is Level 64 atm. Can't wait. This is gonna be my second job fighting Maat. I did try with Red Mage on Phoenix server but was 0/5 and thus created a new character on Gilgamesh ( also to play together with my bf ). BTW, I am equipping all the Cobra set outfit atm and planning on borrowing my bf's Scorpion Harness. From what Prons experience, the Bard Maat fight isn't all that bad. PHEW!!!! especially after the Red Mage experiences lol. Finally I can get past that Lv. 70 mark ( cross my fingers ).
Prons, what Level did you fight Maat at ? am planning to do so at Lv. 66. Also, which mobs did you fight for your Bard Testimony as I will be duoing with my bf ( who is a Monk Lv. 64 ) to get those Testimony ? Thank you for your time.

If it had to be staff, I'd go with Light, but sword is much more preferable for this fight.

I just went 0/2 against maat and had him down to 15% when he finished me off. I made the mistake of not using food/drink. Here was my strategy that ALMOST worked >.>

I used Soul Voice + Paeon V+IV, then stuck Elegy/Requiem. Worked well for a while, but Maat always manages to get in some crit hits that {Bastard Sword}


Next time I go in, I'll use a Tavnazian Taco + Pamama Au Lait. I didn't think I'd need food with all of the ATT+ACC gear I had on + all the Hi-Pots. I'll need the taco for the +25% defense boost especially, since he hits no less than 150HP >.<

Did you get close to him before buffing?

This is critical; you have to pay attention to what buffs he uses on himself so you know whether or not to dispel them. And yeah, defense food would have saved you.

You have to try to outlast him by slowing him down and either going crazy with def or (as I preferred) eating def food but using double peon (did you have an Ebony Harp +1 for the +2 to peon? makes a BIG difference)

Big part of the problem right there. Sword is still preferable, it doesn't have to be a Joyeuse (though that helps), but Ceremet Sword is pretty decent fo that fight. Spirits Within will hurt Maat bad, as well Requiem VI and Carange Elegy under the Soul Voice.

HQ instruments for all songs will tip the scales as well.

If you have MP, that would be true, but any MP you would have would come from gear, which generally doesn't amount to much. Not too sure how it would be without the latent tbh.

And, I still won on Dagger using Cyclone about 3 times, on the first try no less. I brought a ton of potions, though, and I suppose I had a fair bit of luck too.

Even without the latent the DPS is still decent.

If you can, get someone to help you obtain a Joyeuse.

I agree cause I used sword - company btw but our LS leader suggested wearing Carapiece for body and gloves. I was glad I listened to her cause I beat maat 1/2. The first ones I lost simply because I only brought 3 Hi-potions. I used around 8 Hi-potions ( fight was a month ago can't really remember ) but yea I used sword and the carapieace body and gloves as the latent effect is extra defense and higher attack when you are losing HP ( I think when HP in the yellow zones could be red not sure ). The battle last quite long though simply because we both keeps on casting songs but stay calm and look at what maat is casting on himself and you. Make sure to bring selbina milk as maat WILL do magic finale on you a few times and if you use it, maat will probably keep on casting magic finale on you and thus won't cast as much buff on himself. Remember to keep on using it when he finish casting magic finale on you.
