Coming back to ffxi Galka future bard with some small question's - Final Fantasy XI :: Dreams in Vana'diel :: Community

Hello, I have been on an almost 1 year hiatus from ffxi due to my new family addition but now that I have some free time at home I am planning on playing again. I was a 56 Galka Monk/War as a main but decided to try a different path as a future bard. I know the best sub for Bard is without a doubt a White Mage, and I plan on lvling that to 37 first. My question is with the correct equipment would a Galka Bard have little to no difference in a pty compared to say an elvaan or even a Hume, or would my racial statistic's down play me ?

Galka have very slightly lower CHR than hume/elvaan/tarutaru, but I find that Galka bards are often the best. Since all of a Bard's MP comes from our subjob, the racial MP penalty doesn't really apply very much to Galka bards, so all you get is a bigger tougher bard who can take some hits. The difference in CHR is pretty miniscule (and honestly, CHR doesn't have all that much effect beyond a certain point anyway), so I really think Galka make the best bards, from a statistical standpoint.

I'd be a lot more worried about getting WHM to 37 as a Galka; that's FAR more challenging than Bard is.

Yep, galka make some of the best brds because of all their hp. The lower chr doesn't matter much and most of your mp comes from gear. Thus your two racial penalties are pretty insignifigant.

If I remember correctly, Galka actually end up with more MP than other races with non-MP main jobs at RSE levels.

I haven't played FFXI in a quite a decent amount of time, but I did level Galka Bard to 59.

Bards have life easier than pretty much every other job. You usually get fast group invites, and by virtue of being a bard, you usually make the xp flow quite nicely. I never had a problem progressing as a galka bard.

As to white mage sub, I would recommend working your cooking skill up to a sufficient level to make pineapple juice. This made getting through Qufim/Kazham a breeze. Galka RSE is also extremely nice for mp.
