Bard Promyvion Equipment

Man, level 30 is a tough level to fight at. So I'm curious what equipment other bards are using for Promyvion? At quick glance, I only found two pieces of equipment that give +CHR at that level: Noble's Ribbon and Bird Whistle. The rest I'm just filling out with +def or +mp gear, but I'm seriously underimpressed as to how well we can gear up for these zones.

My ls is telling the brds to go as WHM main since BRD isn't all that useful in Promyvion.

Anyone have experience in this area to say otherwise?

When I did Dem, I went with

Garish Tunic
RSE Gloves (mithra)
Monster Signa / Fed Knife (macro switch)
RSE Legs
Noble's Ribbon
Bird Whistle
RSE Feet
Hope Ring
Astral Ring
2 Energy Earrings +1

I think that covers it. Anyways I didn't find the melee songs helped all that much in this particular area. Spamming Paeon II and Ballad seemed to keep my party in much better shape than the other 2 in our alliance. Horde Lullaby also comes in handy when you get a few linked Strays coming at your party.

I think Bards would be useful for Ballad (no other refresh at that level), along with Horde Lullaby (Sleepga is level 31 for BLM).

There isn't much you can do to boost your CHR at that level, besides the Noble Ribbon and Bird Whistle. I'd focus more on Astral rings and MP gear so you can provide a significant amount of backup healing.

Maybe invest in some +CHR food if resists are a major problem?

don't have any experience yet but i plan to go as either BLM (Lv 40) or WHM (Lv 55).

i don't like to use BRD in any level capped events.

I dunno.. my PT always seems to be the one in the alliance that is taking the least damage and first to finish resting (each time, I've been the only bard in alliance). While that's far from conclusive, it does make me think we do a good job.

In Mea, my PT won the BCNM, the other did not. In Holla, my PT got the NM down to 15%, the other 2 PTs could each manage only 40-50%. Again not conclusive, but I feel safe in saying we are a positive influence on the PT. 2hr in the BCNM more than makes up for another attacker.

Personaly I've gone with Ballad and Minne for the melees on the climb up ... that choice is in large part due to the availablity of the Minne+2 Instrument at that level. When Empty Seed occurs, the WHM is going to cure them to full/near full reguardless, so the hp per tick seems wasted on the other members who are always (or nearly always) topped off.

Horde is nice for sleeping strays if the portal opens, but I'm only landing it about 60-70% of the time. Success is 0% against the Strays infused with the light element.

Personally I can't wait for the lvl 40 capped fight, because I know I've got the decked out equipment for that one.

Ditch the +Chr equip. @30 there's no elegy or finale, and Lullaby shouldnt be needed at all. Even if it is, you should be able to sleep with Normal Gear. Get all +mp. Bards are good there for the all important MP refresh and back up healing. Also, +Vit and +Agi on war/nin tanks in BCNM is very helpful.

I finished the Promyvion mission and from my experience, BRD should use full set of CHR+ equip and Mary Horn unless you have some Astrals Rings. Some of the monsters are tough to sleep and it could save your PT life.

The great thing with BRD in Promv is that you can Horde Lullaby monsters. This is so helpfull when trying to pass teleporter. You can sleep all the Stray and then safely warp away with your alliance.

The only problem is Promv - Mea where the boss need to be kitted. Bard is not very usefull there. For the other Boss fight, Sould Voice + Minuet/Madrigal will really enhance your PT and the boss will die quickly.

Some people say that Bard is not good and honestly, those people are really clueless. I went in there as WHM, NIN, WAR and BRD. The best and easiest time was with BRD. If I ever have to go back in Emptiness, I will go as Bard, its just that good.

I had some really good experiences as a brd in the new Promyvian areas. I climbed the tower with a single pt so sleeping the Stray's before a teleport was 100% my responsibility.

Mary's Horn and lots of chr+ eq was helpful for me, but in an alliance I don't see it being a huge issue. I could sleep strays 90% or the time without a Signa. (Mithra brd)

Garish gear is not required by any means, although it looks nice. I wore RSE hands and feet. Birds Whistle and Noble Ribbon should be a given. I had a Silk Mist Cape and an Merc. Capt. Belt equipped as well. Earrings can be +mp or +wnd resistence.

Like Tiberion mentioned, in an alliance your main issue should be Ballad and back up healing. Dual Astrals are wonderful, but any mp+ equipment will be helpful.

The main songs I used were Paeon II and Ballad when climbing. In the BCNM I kept Mambo and Minuet II on all the melee and Ballad on the mage. 2hr in the BCNM works amazingly well. (Pt was war/nin x2, Rng/nin x2, brd/whm, and whm/smn?)

This is very similar to my Dem last weekend, substitute a rng/nin for a war/mnk and the whm/smn for whm/blm. I 2hr and sang minuet and madrigal for the NM fight, i had no idea if mambo would be better so i just stick with the old standby's. That fight was so easy, wasn't as hard as dealing with all those stupid strays on the way up even. The next pt from my LS that tried the BCNM fight lost though ; ; twice, they had 3 mages though that may have been the problem.

I didn't have a mary's horn for this and i could sleep pretty well, just CHR etude yourself and eat flint cavier that seemed to help. Not being able to use any horn other than cornette +1 is a real downer heh.

Hi guys

So if I only have one PT, I can use a BRD with Mary's Horn and Monster Signa to keep the strays asleep and get to the spire with only 1 PT correct?

Just make sure that they kill off all the light-elemental strays (you will never land Lullaby on them) and that the rest of them are clumped.

Okay, so basically I can sleep all the strays except for ones that are resistant to light, how will I be able to tell this?

Also how would you suggest we go?

Member1: 32 BRD, 65 RDM, 33 BLM
Member2: 59 THF, 30 NIN
Member3: 30 WAR, 32 RNG, 46 NIN
Member4: 60 SAM, 56 WAR, 30 NIN
Member5: 54 DRK, 30 WAR
Member6: 58 WHM

How would you suggest us go? I was thinking this might work..

Member1: 32 BRD/WHM
Member2: 30 NIN/WAR
Member3: 32 RNG/NIN
Member4: 56 WAR/NIN
Member5: 54 DRK/WAR
Member6: 58 WHM/SMN

I know we will be capped at 30, I was wondering if this would work out. I am only going to do this with 1 PT , even going to the spire with 1 PT if I can manage to sleep the rest of the mobs. Can you give me any opinions? Thanks

Party looks good (though if member5 has NIN to 15, consider another WAR/NIN there). You'll need to be smart and careful in order to get through the memory receptacles with just one party, so don't get overconfident. And make sure all the light elemental ones are dead.

Thanks Vilurum.

I'm currently waiting for my LS members to finally get together. They have been having some real life stuff happening to them so we kind of postponed this. I'll ask if member 5 has NIN at 15, but I always thought that 2 jobs with NIN sub or main could tank basicially without any damage. So wish me best of luck when I finally get to doing this and thanks once more ^^
