Though I feel I contributed to the jack up prices cause I had a feeling it was going to go higher. I bought mine for 20k. I wanted to wait, thinking it was a fluke people would pay that much, but the prices for this song is getting insane. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-03-2004, 07:18 AM | #17 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2003 Posts: 168 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 599 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 599 Donate | The sad thing is that greed is common to people in general -
Most of the (largely level 60-70ish) folks who would be getting the Castle Zvahl (sp) coffers with Mage's Ballad II, or any of the other high demand items are explicity doing so to make a fast gil, not really being to concerned about the BRDs who would then have to stop leveling in BRD to level up THF or RNG in order to farm lowbie mobs.
It's the same sort of thing I see in the mid levels (30-40) who consistently farm Palborough, or the routine Lizzie/Mary/Emperor campers...
I've recently been trying to farm the goblins in Dangruf Wadi for animal glues (at the amazing drop rate of 1-2 glues per hour) with my 34BRD/17WHM, and every day for the past week I've trotted my little Taru butt out to the Wadi, the same group of folks are there, waiting for Lizzie.
I have an unleveled Mithra THF I use as a mule, I might have to actually level here, or level my main toon's subjob in THF (something I *really* dread doing, as I keep hearing that THF is a drag to level)... and a few LSmates who have come close to pulling out their own teeth in frustration at the leveling process for THF...
The story of the one JP buying up all the MBallad scrolls (basically cornering the market) is a sad one. I've nothing against those who have a sense of acheivement in making money (be it IRL or in this game) but it would be nice if there was a more attractive way of doing it than to hurt your BRDs who are not as likely to be able to solo the same mobs or NMs as a WAR or MNK...
Even worse when your a Taru, who has yet to get his RSE. I enjoying playing FFXI as a support/healer - which is great when I can play as a BRD/WHM.
If I enjoyed playing a melee or other damage-dealing class, I'd be a busy Galka or Elvaan smacking things up... but in order to stay up to date (and thus marketable to leveling PTs) I am forced to consider a long hard road of cultivating a Taru melee or leveling my vault character.
Sorry for the long rant... just would like not to have develop a melee class I have no real desire to play. Seeker_Onos :::: Windurst Rank 10 :::: :::: Kirin Captivator :::: :::: Dynamis-Beaucedine Interloper :::: :::: Omega Ostracizer ::::

Hope it doesn't go up much.. o.O. Maybe I should just go buy it now. It would leave me pretty much broke, but I'd be set for a while I guess. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-05-2004, 07:02 AM | #19 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Dec 2003 Posts: 474 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 192 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 192 Donate | Every bard I know is basically filthhy rich from doing tons of BCNM 40's and eventually BCNM 60's. I'd trade my superiour soloing ability to be able to make tons of gil doing BCNM's considering BRD is basically a staple in BCNM 40's and 60's. No one does 50's , and that doesn't really matter. BRD is the single most important job for BCNM.
Get a few more levels and just whore out your absolute need and make gil doing BCNM's. Why bother soloing when you can make easily 200k+ doing a few BCNMs in a day. Just get a mary's horn or whatever its called (believe this is reasonably priced on most servers) and you are good to go. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-05-2004, 10:20 AM | #20 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Posts: 39 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 214 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 214 Donate | I have Mary's Horn, and I'm 2-3 on BCNM 40 Mandragoras. And I've gotten a whopping 25k from it =P. You still have to level to get enough beastmen seals, or farm them, to buy an orb. Not to mention that you have to find a good enough team that can actually win, otherwise the money spent on food/potions/etc gets wasted. And you have to find a team. At least with solo farming you can go whenever you want; I have to wait for the right people to all be on at the same time with enough time to do a few BCNM runs with enough seals for orbs for BCNM. Hopefully, as I get used to my BCNM team, I will start to see some good profits Until then, I'm levelling other jobs that don't have such high cost for now ^^
And Mary's Horn = 70k+, not exactly what I would call resonably priced. I was lucky, she dropped it for me ^^ ~Fantasia~

Just leveling like 2 jobs to 30 gets a good pile of seals usually unless you destroyed them or something dumb. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-06-2004, 08:58 PM | #22 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2003 Posts: 15 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 154 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 154 Donate | Wow I swear reading this topic has jinxed me. Ballad II is hardly ever in stock, and since I read it, only 2 have gone up. And, well, as you can see.. they were people trying to make it more expensive ._. I guess this in't much to complain about compared to some other servers. But, yeah. Surprising how the price doubled in just 2 sales. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-08-2004, 05:57 AM | #23 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Dec 2003 Posts: 103 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 159 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 159 Donate | Holy crap.. even the doubled price isn't bad. 15-30k for basically your most important song in the entire game isn't bad. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-08-2004, 06:16 AM | #24 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Dec 2003 Posts: 474 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 192 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 192 Donate | Things tend to go up in value as they develop a market, which people leveling up develops a market. Harder to justify an 80k price tag on Ballad 2 when there is only say, 10 bards who can use it, but much more justifiable when there is over 100. Its the same thing that happened to armor. When I bought 2 Sniper Rings, they were 260k and 275k. The first time I saw the item they were 210k or so, and now they are 380k each. Simple answer is more people were able to use them so since the market got bigger, it was easier to move them. That and archer ring farmers jacking up the price of archer rings contributed to it. Even the Life Belt I spent 100k on is now 140k or so.
It is just the nature of the game. I would expect all the high level items and spells which are reasonably priced on my server will increase substantially as the demand for them increases. What I did as I leveled is bought equipment up to 10 levels higher than me in advance simply under the assumption that the price would be going up as more people bought and were able to use whatever items, and its been true for every single piece of equipment I wear, everything went up in the last few months I've been playing.
Anyway just use some foresight and it pays off in the long run, and really even 80k (how much ballad 2 costs on my server) isn't much in the grand scheme of things considering the long term usage of the song. Be happy you aren't like so many melee my level who didn't show the same degree of foresight and have to spend almost 400k on rings each, and 40%+ what I had to pay for my items, and that doesn't even touch the items in the millions of gil category. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-12-2004, 12:41 PM | #25 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Jul 2003 Posts: 120 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 414 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 414 Donate | I agree no one should complain about the song prices. You can't expect to just mindlessly level up and get everythign free the whole time you play.
