Bard Help [Needed]

Im thinking of making a Tar Mnk/Brd the reasoning is to sing for attack boosts before i melee the enemy, i was wondering if i could get some opinions on this.

Also do i have to buy songs like spells?

Last question is can i use an instrument if im Mnk/Brd or not plus the penalties of having the Brd job as sub class not primary class.

Brd subs generally do not work... you can only sing one song and you cannot use instruments. Without instruments, every song except for the HP regen and MP regen songs work at about 1/2 effectiveness max. Also as a bard sub you can only keep 1 song going at a time.

Also you must buy songs like spells, however songs have been *much* cheaper for me so far than white mage spells, yet that might be do to relative bard rarity than anything else.

Wouldn't subbing bard be good to use mp/hp regen?

Refresh,ballad,Regeneration,Regeneration song

for mages, ballard can be a little help if you don't have a "real" bard with you.
I personally will sub some other mage for my RDM tho. For more magics and MP.

and umm... ballard is level 25. so you need 50/25 atleast

I just got ballad and I was sort of disappointed... 1 mp every 3 seconds only... I am hoping that it is just because of my level and that ballad will increase in strength but I'm not sure it will (the pain spells never seemed to get stronger and I assume ballad was similiar). Perhaps this was one of the bard nerfs mentioned earlier...

that's all ballard 1 does. it won't get stronger. you need ballard 1+2 to really be generating any good MP.
but BRD also got other songs. altho you only got 1 ballard you still can boost your party wit ht tons other songs. which are all great help

Your songs will increase in strength as you level, my Pian1 and 2 songs are capable of regenerating 2 and 3 HP, respectively. I believe Ballad1 was able to regenerate up to 2 MP prior to the 4/15 patch, but it only regenerates 1 MP now. Bard is still a highly sought after job for PTs, so don't be too discouraged.
