Dear members!

I just bought the FFXI 2008 edition for my new Laptop (HP Pavilion dv7) with Windows Vista. Since January 26th I'm trying to run it...
First I didn't had the Vista-Patch. After installing the Vista-Patch and installing POL and FFXI again it didn't work. Everytime I'm trying to registrate a new Content-ID I get the error-code POL-1341.
On Friday I called the POL-Support hotline and there was such a stupid guy on the line, who just said I should install the game once again!!! I'm just so sick of installing and deinstalling... I installed about 50 hours til now...
Today I called my provider, because there might be some ports which are not available - no! Every port is available.

Now I'm sooo desperate... Has anybody of you an idea how to run POL on my Laptop??

I also tried to turn off my virus-software (inlcuding Firewall) and all other programs... But it doesn't work....

Pleaaaseeee, help me, I'm really at the end of my nervs.

You will probably want to disable the UAC (google it, not entirely sure how to do it since I only did it once) and also run FFXI/POL as Administrator. I think those were the two hurdles I had to jump over to play FFXI on Vista.

I just disabled the UAC, I'm also Administrator... But it doesn't work anyway... A friend of mine told me that POL has maintenances at the moment. Maybe there's a connection??

That's quite possible, if after waiting a day or two it still doesn't work then you can continue to work on troubleshooting. Vista is really stupid about working with POL at first, but once you get it you should have no problems.

I downloaded the vista version of pol and ffxi works fine. Sorta. Players and summoned avatars and npcs are garbled blobs of textures and polygons. I did have to run the pol as administrater, never had to turn any UAC off.

You can also go to pol.exe file and click its properties to always run as administrator, same with ffxi itself.

YOU'RE SCREWING ME OVER DON'T YOU?? I installed the game this way... And I tried to install POL first, etc... I tried so many different ways and nothing worked!!

I've called this f... hotline 3 times, and 3 times nobody could help me!!! Incompetent bastards... Nobody knows anything!!! Just telling me that there's a lot of snow and nobody at the office, but thats not my problem! I've paid for this game and nobody is able to help me. I get a error-code that was concipated by POL and nobody of this stupid people is able to look for it in their system....

Sorry, but I'm very disappointed... There are a few million people playing this game - also on their laptop, also on Vista, where's the f... problem??

If everyone else can, the problem is you.

Uninstall EVERYTHING. Pol, All the expansions and Tetra master. Reboot the machine. Disable any anti-virus. Then follow the instructions properly. Don't take a shortcut because you think you know better, just follow the directions.

If you can't do that, you're problems are deeper then SE can solve.

Re you trying to register/activate a content ID or get pol / ffxi itself to load/ play?

FYI there was annoying mainenance yesterday and this morning and people were unable to register / cancel / reactivate IDs. Its available now, as i had deactivated the wrong char and coudn't actualy REactivate until she had deactivated, WTF? Why would anyone have to WAIT heh.

I was shocked on Friday night when I tried to install the game on Vista x64 and I had no problems. I downloaded and installed the Vista PoL installer, installed FFXI, Rotz, CoP, ToAU, and WotG in that order. Loaded up PoL and downloaded all the updates, went to FFXI and downloaded all the updates, and played. Does this POL error come up when you try to get into PoL or after you get into the actual program?

EDIT: Then too, I wasn't registering new characters, I already have a POL account on my laptop.

SE cannot solve the problem because the SE-Hotline is the same hotline as POL's hotline....

But there's another thing in my mind: I got Vist 32bit, is there a problem??

I'm trying to register a new Content-ID and then the error-code comes... I'm right at the beginning... I installed in the same order as you did...

Assuming you can log into POL did you then set up information like credit card info, address, POL ID number that came with the game/box ? It needs to know this info before u can purchase an ID to create a char on. (last 26 hrs you probly woudnt been able to as there was a maintenance patch regarding that area.

Login, get to the screen where it has the menus:

Games
Navigator
Extras
Service and Support
Quick Manuals
Options
Logout

Click Service and Support (to update/add your membership information)
Click Membership
Click Catagory (that dropdown menu on the bottom, make sure u scroll down it and see the rest of the options (i missed on my first time).

In there you can edit/create payment methods, Aquire Content IDs (which you CANT do for the very first time as I recall in the game menu itself that you see just before actually playing and is very misleading/confusing) You MUST get one in this menu thats within your membership dropdown menu under Contents with options to obtain, cancel, reactivate Content IDs.


I'm not sure if this is your issue, but perhaps it can help some.

not sure if you've sorted it out yet or not but i run vista.

i tried out the vista patch on the website and like you it didnt work.

so i simply went back and installed the POL off the CD and updated it all, rebooted the computer and it works fine.

but it may just be me...

Thanks for your posts, but my problem is: I can't do ANYTHING. I'm just clicking the button "Start PlayOnline Registration" and after 15 minutes of loading I get the error-code...
