Yeah, many AoEs that aren't directly physical attacks are magic damage(Bomb Toss, etc.) that Shell will help on.

As far as compared to other jobs, I've been through all of it, I'm 75 RDM with DRK/BLM/WHM/NIN/WAR/RNG/THF subs, 67 BRD, and now 50 COR. I will agree that comparatively COR has it very easy to learn spells, especially in relation to BLU. As far as BRD, it's correct that most BRD spells are junk, but I rarely paid more than 2k for any of those scrolls, and every song I need 68+ dropped while I was camping Minstrel's Coat. I don't have that option as COR. And yeah, most of the expensive COR rolls are not must-haves, as long as you have Chaos, Hunter's, and Evoker's a normal party is likely to not notice you missing anything else. But personally, it irks the crap out of me not having all of the abilities for a job, even if I don't use them all, but at least as BRD I wasn't spending 50k+ for Pastoral.

Magic defense bonus from Magus Roll helps mitigate the AoE damage that the rdm is poorly equipped to deal with without Curaga and Bar-ra spells, probably.

Yeah, I don't like resorting to Magus for that purpose, but I've had a BLU happen to be in the PT when it's happened. Cursed Sphere and most everything you EXP/Merit on in mire is magic AoE. We had good killspeed when it happened, so Magus covered things pretty well.

I'd miss fighters roll, honestly. (but my set pt is probably not really a normal party.)

I missed this a while back.

Fighter's, Rouge, Warlock's and Wizard's Roll are all very worthwhile rolls depending upon the situation and job presence. Just because its common to go without food on something like colibri doesn't mean I throw up Hunter's Roll by default, people are still responsible for thier own accuracy, after all.

So I'd kind would notice the lack of certain rolls.
