While not a terribly important statistic to know, but it would be interesting to see the number of people seeking at each level on each server in real time. (Update once every 10 minutes or so would be fine.)
Can S-E add to the Playonline website some real time graphs of number of people seeking vs. their levels? (For each server?)
IMO, this would be more interesting than the "Live Vana'diel", and even be mildly useful for people trying to decide whether it's worthwhile to log on and look for a party.
The addition load to the /search system would be low, since this amounts to:
/sea all 10 inv
/sea all 11 inv
...
/sea all 75 inv
Once every 10 minutes.
The data can be saved and compiled for the next Vana'diel Census, too. ^_^b “ I’m in pain, but I’m happy.”

Remember when it was basically impossible to use /sea because of DDOS attacks and lobby server problems? Last I checked, /sea, lobby server, download server, and AH are all linked, which means that when one has problems, they all have problems. While this is a very stupid decision, I imagine it's too late to change it very effectively.
Could you imagine how bad it would be if people were searching from outside the game? Even if the page just reflects a check, the webpage to display this info for all servers would be a huge pain to use. If you want to do this, you could build a system to check it yourself though, similar to ffxiah. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-14-2007, 04:59 PM | #4 (permalink) | | =~.^= Brain of Knowledge Join Date: May 2006 Location: Area 3.141592654...... I dunno, I don't think the number of people LFG is a true indicator of how things are going with parties. You'd be surprised at how many people join my parties who aren't LFG when I ask them.

Feba, I think you misunderstood what I wrote.
I want SE itself to do a few query to their database, and graph the result on their website.

Yes, it's mildly useful, at best. It's just something easy for S-E to do, and more interesting (to me) than "Live Vana'diel". “ I’m in pain, but I’m happy.”

Not much goes on in the cities or the areas they show.

Disable client use of /sea? Are you insane?
Have you ever played one of those free korean MMOs, the ones with absolutely no way to search out other players, yet still require parties? Have you SEEN how much spam they get in their shout channels? Now imagine that in a game where hundreds of people are lfg at any given time, and they HAVE to friend a party because they can't solo.
Not to mention that this would force everyone back into one area, like lower jeuno, so they can see party shouts, so they ever have a chance of joining a PT. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-15-2007, 12:41 PM | #8 (permalink) | | Brain of Knowledge Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Dumfries, Virgina Posts: 1,934 Style: Dark - Version 6 My Mood: Thanks: 909 Thanked 173x in 135 Posts Gil: 15,483 Bank: 15,173 Total Gil: 30,656 Donate | Re: How about showing the seeking party data on website? The OP is meant to ask S-E to add a little something (with very light server load, BTW) to the POL/FFXI website--a few graphs of the number of party seekers and their levels, just to make the website more interesting. ^_^;
There's no intention to change/add/take away anything in-game. “ I’m in pain, but I’m happy.”

Essentially, Aka is suggesting a total revamp of the search system with more variables and information then what is currently available. Personally, I'd love to be able to LFG on more then one job at a time efficiently. One of FFXI's strongest points is that it allows you to change jobs essentially at will. Yet, once that flag goes up, that 's all she wrote.
I like the OPs idea but I can't see how it could be implemented under SE's current /sea system without a significant drain on their resources.

It's a single query to the database (per world), every 10 minutes. That's a tiny load on the database, honest. And it's won't implemented as a sequence /sea (as least I hope not); that's just a way of explaining what I wanted.
The programmers can translate that into the appropriate SQL query which says "give me a list of people seeking and their levels". Then, some some other program can sort though and format the data, send send it to another program to make the graph, which the web server can cache... “ I’m in pain, but I’m happy.”
