Every online store i've checked this past week, including that of EB and Square-Enix, is either out of stock or has de-listed FFXI for the PS2/360. Similarly every store i've checked in the area has done the same, no more FFXI tabs, and no more FFXI. Yet Game Crazy says they're unable to special order, which means it probably hasn't been discontinued, at least I hope it wasn't. My PC really isn't in good enough shape to run games anymore. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-13-2007, 12:22 AM | #2 (permalink) | | Dr. Tran Brain of Knowledge Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Los Angeles, Ca. The PS2's HDD is no longer supported.
You can always order from online stores, like Amazon or something. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-13-2007, 02:18 AM | #3 (permalink) | The BBQ Kitten Revolution FFXIWiki Team Join Date: May 2006 Location: Windurst Posts: 4,554 Style: Light - Version 6 My Mood: Thanks: 158 Thanked 1,254x in 698 Posts Gil: 36,247 Bank: 10 Total Gil: 36,257 Donate | Re: New 360/PS2 build? The PS2 version of the game, however, is still supported, Finding a PS2 HDD w/ FFXI would not be impossible, you can look around eBay or amazon, but it might not be easy, either. In any event, it would be difficult to secure expansion discs for the PS2 version.
The Xbox 360 version I see everyday, at every gamestore I know of. It would likely be easier to hunt down the 360 version of FFXI at this point. In that regard, I'd just keep looking until you found it, I'm sure the 360 version is still in print. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-13-2007, 10:27 AM | #4 (permalink) | | Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: Winston,GA Posts: 653 Style: Light - Version 6 My Mood: Thanks: 42 Thanked 23x in 21 Posts Gil: 6,010 Bank: 12,013 Total Gil: 18,023 Donate | Re: New 360/PS2 build? I posted something similar to this before but for different reasons. The PS2 edition runs on the PS3 without a lick of trouble so reprinting the installs with "HDD Required" printed on them just makes sence to me. I just can't see why SE does not do just that....
As for the Xbox360 edition...well it hasn't sold well due the the fact that Xbox fanboys keep yelling about the mothly fee...and they are more itno the 1,000+ shooter games on the system and not RPGs.... | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-13-2007, 10:31 AM | #5 (permalink) | | factcheck.org Oracle of Knowledge Join Date: Oct 2004 Posts: 6,902 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 1,705 Thanked 1,541x in 1,076 Posts Gil: 10,373 Bank: 566,551 Total Gil: 576,924 Donate | Re: New 360/PS2 build? Personally, PS2 version isn't worth it unless you have a friend that has the discs, get an HDD cheap off ebay, and you already have the content IDs on your PC account.
If your PC doesn't play well, chances are a PS2 won't either. I'd recommend either upgrading or buying a new PC, or buying a 360. 360 IS supported, AND looks FAR nicer than PS2. Definitely worth the extra cost, if you want to play FFXI on a console. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-15-2007, 09:11 AM | #6 (permalink) | | Heir to Odin Oracle of Knowledge Join Date: May 2006 Location: None of your damn business Posts: 3,593 Style: Light - Version 5 My Mood: Thanks: 775 Thanked 334x in 234 Posts Gil: 110,822 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 110,822 Donate | Re: New 360/PS2 build? Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the game originally made FOR the PS2 at first? | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-15-2007, 10:45 AM | #10 (permalink) | | Senior Veteran Oracle of Knowledge Join Date: May 2006 Posts: 4,565 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 114 Thanked 1,395x in 845 Posts Gil: 3,408 Bank: 210,459 Total Gil: 213,867 Donate | Re: New 360/PS2 build? Yes, the first client was the Japanese PS2 client. On top of that even if it wasn't first written for the PS2, the PS2 has static hardware, if it works at all on Bob's PS2 it will work on every PS2 (except broken ones).
The correct statement would be if it doesn't work on your PC it will work on a PS2 or a 360. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-15-2007, 11:19 AM | #11 (permalink) | | Member Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Texas Posts: 776 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 11 Thanked 126x in 92 Posts Gil: 143 Bank: 2,958 Total Gil: 3,101 Donate | Re: New 360/PS2 build? I believe what feba was getting at is if you can't afford a decent enough machine to handle FFXI you might have trouble getting a PS2 version.
First you'd have to get a hard-drive working in your PS2. The PS2 would have to be the older model, not the slim version. Then you'd have to find the game and expansions for PS2. If the OP doesn't already have a hard drive for his PS2, it might be safer to upgrade the computer as opposed to trusting e-bay or something for parts.
But up to the OP what he would prefer to do. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-15-2007, 11:27 AM | #12 (permalink) | | Senior Veteran Oracle of Knowledge Join Date: May 2006 Posts: 4,565 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 114 Thanked 1,395x in 845 Posts Gil: 3,408 Bank: 210,459 Total Gil: 213,867 Donate | Re: New 360/PS2 build? You can get used original PS2's. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-15-2007, 11:33 AM | #13 (permalink) | | Member Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Texas Posts: 776 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 11 Thanked 126x in 92 Posts Gil: 143 Bank: 2,958 Total Gil: 3,101 Donate | Re: New 360/PS2 build? Are the Internet hookup things (I forgot what they are called for PS2) still available as well? I know the slim version now has it built in, didn't know if they discontinued the original though. It's been a while since I've even turned my PS2 on so I'm a bit rusty on it's features.
But either way, I would just go the cheapest route, or if the OP intends on getting a 360 anyways I wouldn't discourage it. I enjoy playing the game on my desktop, 360, and laptop. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-15-2007, 11:39 AM | #14 (permalink) | | Senior Veteran Oracle of Knowledge Join Date: May 2006 Posts: 4,565 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 114 Thanked 1,395x in 845 Posts Gil: 3,408 Bank: 210,459 Total Gil: 213,867 Donate | Re: New 360/PS2 build? You can also pay $500-$600 and buy a PS3. You'd still need the install disks but thanks to the firmware updates to the backwards compatibility FFXI runs fine on a PS3....
The thing is you're running the PS2 version on the PS3...not a PS3 specific version.... | | ::Quote Selected:: | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | All times are GMT -8.
