"no longer blinded" is correct English. "no longer blind" is also correct, but it sounds... I dunno, a little empty? Flat? "blinded" definitely sounds better^^

And I haven't used the AH since the update so I can't speak to the whole "gils" thing, but in every other FF game it has always been gil for singular and plural.

I see either as correct in certain context. "Blind" is more of a permanent thing to me, like you are likely never going to see again. "Blinded" has a more temporary meaning to me, like you have been blindfolded, or had the spell Blind cast on you. Therefore, I think FFXI has it right. Just my 2 gil.

Well, I just did a Mirriam Webster search online... Blinded doesn't exist. The results I got were for "blind"... /shrugs

Well, blinded isn't a word in and of itself - it is the past participle of the word blind.

lol, I didn't realize that "gils" was erroneously added only after this update. Maybe it was my subconscious that made me notice the word in the pop up boxes lately.

I have always found it interesting that most of the people I find using "gils" do not have English as their native language. "gil" as a plural is technically the exception and not the rule in English. Dollar => Dollars for example.

I just thought SE might have a little fun with this question since so many (non-JP) players encounter the issue ^^ Thank you all for your replies!

(btw, I use "gil" singular and plural)

No, I said past participle, not principle.

Anyway, I typed both phrases into Microsoft Word and neither one had the green underline that signifies a grammatical error, so I think both "...no longer blinded" and "...no longer blind" are correct. The finer differences between the two will need an English Major, methinks.

P.S. Gil plural is most definitely Gil, and not Gils, Gills, Gilz, Gillz, or whatever else morons are shouting in S.Sandoria

Gold is a uncountable noun (like bread) so technically can't have a plural, saying 'I have 3 gold' doesn't make any sense in the real world, you'd need to qualify it with a counter: I have 3 grams of gold, or I have 3 gold coins.

I think gil is like yen though and has the same plural and singular form, somehow gils just seems wrong.

I'm surprised they haven't fixed the text when a player's attack is countered though, "one of the Nazo's shadows absorbs the damage and disappears"

I didn't know there was a change either. Somebody in the LS the other day mentioned something about gil or gils, but I was soloing so I was paying attention to what was going on so I didn't get squashed.

When I buy something at the AH, the only thing I pay attention to is if I got the item or not. lol When selling, I do it so fast I don't pay attention to the verbage. As long as it's up at the AH and somebody buys it, I'm happy.

But I've always referred to it as gil. Only other time I don't, it's in a single phrase. "I needz gilz!"

I want to strangle people when they shout, tele-whatever 3000 gils.

That and people on vent who pronounce melee as Mee-lee rather than maylay.

yeah. Personally, I consider it sad that i'd rather talk to a JP with three years of english in highschool than an NA who's been speaking it his whole life, and is three years into highschool =/
