DRAGONBALL Z Returns to Japanese TV in April

Source: Daizenshuu EX - Updated 02/06/2009 -- ["Refreshed" DBZ TV Airing In Japan!]

Quote:
Another big thanks to kei17 over in Japan for the Jump scan and translation/information. Let's just break it down clearly and quickly for you, since I'm pretty sure that we can all barely contain our excitement:
  • The DBZ TV series is receiving an extensive "refresh" for Japanese television airing
  • This is a celebration of the 20th anniversary of DBZ
  • While based on the original animation production, it is being updated with new technology
  • This includes extending the frames for formatting on an HD 16:9 display (note: not cropping the image)
  • The original Japanese cast is re-grouping to re-voice the show (where available, and unfortunately not including those that have passed on, such as Hirotaka Suzuoki [Tenshinhan])
  • Sound effects are being updated
  • Unlike the general show, the OPs and EDs are being completely redone
  • While not in the above announcement, other reports are noting that the number of episodes is being reduced from 291 to approximately 100
  • This begins 05 April 2009 @ 9 am

Re: DRAGONBALL Z Returns to Japanese TV in April

Seriously, the cell saga was one of my favorite series of any cartoons.....BUT

They could have made it a 5 show series show, instead they drug it out

30 minute show=

5 minutes of intro and recap of last episode
4 Minutes of Comercials
5 Minutes of last episode....seriously 5 minutes of the last episode.
4 Minutes of comercials
5 Minutes of new show
4 Minutes of comercials
3 Minutes of preview footage/credits.

That's why I can't watch DBZ....that shit kills me.

Re: DRAGONBALL Z Returns to Japanese TV in April

If you get the dvd box sets you can do something called marathon mod, which makes the episodes extremely fun and easy to watch.

Dbz is good and all, but that filler killed it, tv episode-wise.

Marathon mod plays each show non-stop with no entrances and no ending, except for the first one with episode one, and the ending with the last episode of the disc. No "Last time on DRAGONBALL Z", no "NEXT TIME ON DRAGONBALL Z". Pretty much makes it like 4 movies per boxset. Pretty nice little feature.

I will refuse to watch this if they don't redo the Driving Episode.

Wasn't the driving episode only a like special edition anyways? I don't think it was aired in america, it was special for ordering something. Atleast when funimation controlled things.

Re: DRAGONBALL Z Returns to Japanese TV in April

Seriously, if your dbz experience has been ruined, get the box sets or a friend who has them, or rent them at a blockbuster and try marathon mode, it makes them so much more easier to take in. Its really amazing, the way they stream together. Plus they have been digitally remastered with the original voices, not the stupid voice overs that came form those "Original Ultimate Uncut" ones that other company released and failed not to long ago.

Re: DRAGONBALL Z Returns to Japanese TV in April

Awesome!

This time I'll be sure to download it in HD. One of my little wishes became a reality after all.

Now, if you excuse me I'll go back to wishing for a Saint Seiya remake.

This makes me want to watch it again. DBZ just went on for far too fucking long. Toriyama originally wanted it to end with Frieza, so maybe this one will be good?

EDIT: So technically everything past Frieza is pure filler, I'm looking at you, Dragon Ball GT!

DBGT was not even filler.... it did not exist lol

in Dragon Ball Online, GT never happened, since the original creator is the one overseeing the story for it.

Wait wait wait... people actually take DBZ seriously to care enough?

And all my life I always thought everyone really just hated it...
