Returning to FFXI

Hi all, I'm new to the forum. I've decided to return to FFXI after failing to find something else that appeals to me as much as FFXI did in the past 6-7 months. I'm basically looking for a friendly server with not much in the way of greed and elitism. I started out originally on Ifrit, which I won't return to as I left it for hades at one point. I am considering Hades as I'm still in contact with my old LS but I would like to hear what some of the other servers are like. Thx.

All servers are pretty similar. The only real differences are the balance of power between the various linkshells at end-game, and the geographical distribution of players.

The five newer servers (Asura, Midgardsormr, Fairy, Hades, Remora) have a slightly higher proportion of English speaking players so that might figure into your choice. They also have a slightly stronger representation from European players for similar reasons.

Other than that, it's just who you know and who you choose to associate with. There's good and bad people on every server - that's just human nature.

It's hard to judge servers based on the server forums here. Some just don't have much representation for one thing. Along with that, the Mod/User ratio is high enough here that any huge drama thread usually gets locked down pretty quick. If you check out the server forums on KI or (/shudder) Alla, you can get a small idea of how things are. Most of the drama though revolves around endgame/hnm stuff, which if you're restarting won't be an issue for a while.

What Icemage said was right about the EN/JP ratio on the 'new' servers. I've never been concerned with the ratio myself but I can understand if others are.

yer i've been thinkong of come'in back as well try'd other games but just not as much fun i just worry i'll have the same problem as last time and have no-one to do missions and stuff with as wasnt many uk players when i played
