| Evasion: Hidden stat?
Just something I wanted to confirm, I noticed when I equip Beetle earrings which are evasion-2 I noticed my evasion stat on the "combat skills" menu doesnt go down, Am I on drugs or does this mean evasion is a hidden stat of some sort? Currently levelling NIN and have been passing up buying eva+ stuff because my evasion stat on combat skill menu is capped.. (blue numbers) Should I ignore this and keep buying evade gear? |

Items with + to stats like evasion and stuff adds up even if you already capped it

you'll only see a change on your skills menu if something says it adds to skill, like evasion skill +5, not just evasion+5. I'm not too sure what the difference it though.

Yeah that's weird. My AF gloves give +5 parrying, and that *does* go up in the menus when I equip them.

I was wondering about this for a while and only have my own theories to add to this. There's a rare/ex earring called Moldavite Pierce (lv47) that has a stat "Magic Atk. Power +5" Not +5%, or +5 skills, or +5 damage; just plain ole +5. Now the question is, wtf does that even mean? You really gotta hand it to square for hiding so much information from the players in this game. We should know exactly what an item we're wearing does. I mean, I can agree that things like the elemental staves' elemental boost for their element doesn't need to be showed in the item descrition. That kind of thing is kinda cool even. But if there is a visible stat, we should know what it means, without having to hack the damn data. The only way I've been able to determine what it actually does is by running my own test. Both equipping and deequiping the pierce and killing some 50 enemies, I've determined that the +5 is actually +5% damage, as I was getting an approximate +5% boost to the same spell I was casting repeatedly. Now, this is a long shot in the dark, but it's possible if it doesn't have the word "skill" tacked on to it, it actually raises your skill by a percentage instead of the face value. And that's my two cents.

Hmmmm, I think of them this way. Take your regular 1h sword: There's a D stat on each 1h sword. You have your 1h sword skill. You also have your regular "attack" stat. And finally, you got your STR stat. They're all different things, and they all indirectly affect each other. For example, if you raise your 1h sword skill, your attack stat will go up. If you equip some STR+ rings, your attack stat will also go up. If you get a bard song minuet on you, your attack stat will go up. Now, just switch the above into evasion. You have AGI, which affects evade somewhat. You have your evasion skill. You also have the hidden "evade" stat (which you can enhance by equiping Dodge Earrings, Bat Cape, Scorpio Harness, etc) When you equip something that lowers your evade, that means it is lowering the final evade value that is not shown in your stat screen. Just like how if you receive a bard attack up song, it's only that your final attack stat is raised, not your STR, not your weapon D value, and not your weapon skill level. |

hmm thanks, I usually pass up evade + gear thinking that since my evade skill is capped whats the point. This makes me rethink alot of equipment choices now ><;

correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think beetle rings have minus to evasion at all. I thought beetle rings are minus to accuracy and plus to ranged accuracy? Maybe this is why you don't see evasion stats go down.

What Tongyang said is correct. The -evasion on the beetle earrings affects a "hidden" Evasion parameter that is not the same as the Evasion listed in your skills list. Even in the Japanese version it is very misleading. The "hidden" evasion skill is the same as your Accuracy in that you cannot view the numbers -- you can only see the stats which affect them, such as DEX or AGI. On a similar note, Magic Attack Power +5 is directly increasing your Magic Attack Power stat, which is another "hidden" stat. It is the elemental magic version of the physical Attack Power stat, although that one is not hidden (shown below your equipment slots). |

unless you're a NIN or THF/NIN, you don't really have to care about evasion anyway. evasion for other jobs suck to the extent that you really can't even try to blink every single hit to you and LOL razz

maybe it just doesnt show the change. Like i have +10 dex but the screen only shows my base dex. add/subtract in your head. Its common sense people... Only stat i remeber as being truely hidden is Accuracy, which is (DEX/2)+ACC Gear.

Note the "é_”法攻撃力アップ" – thats all it says, no +(number), no nothing. Very informative... | |
