| Junior Member | Need a good Gamepad for PC...
Ok, I have always used gamepads when playing FFXI ever since I was in Beta... I love them and adore them especially when used inconjuction... HoWever...... They keep breaking on me! I have gone thru 2 gravis Gamepads, 2 Logitech Gamepads... I was about to get the last one replaced but Best Buy was out so I got my money back... Anyhow, My question is what gamepads do you guys use and how long have they lasted you? My last gamepad died after 2-3 months of use (which was the longest lasting one)... And please I don't wanna get flamed from the keyboarding purists... Thanks

Get a USB > PS2 converter and use a PS2 controller. I find the PS2 controller much better and more comfortable than any of the PC controllers out there, although that is just me.

I hear that the Nyko AirFlow PC Gamepad is really good for FFXI, but I use a PS2 controller > USB adapter as well. Nothing wrong with going with the original PS2 controller. :D |

the question is how long have you had it for? I mean the ones I had worked great until they died...

i have played for 7 and a half months on the same controller, no breaks yet, but i did spill dr pepper on it. I had to take it apart and clean it, but it still works. as long as you dont throw your commercial across the room when you die, or accidentaly set it under your chair, youll be fine

airflow has been garbage for me, fan keeps breaking and sometimes it doesn't work. USB > PS2 is usually your cheapest and best bet if you have a PS2 controller to begin with.

I'm using a Saitek p2500 (I think it's 2500, not sure of that) rumble pad and it works great. No problems with it at all. I used to use a logitech dual action, but it started having problems with the calibration of the analog sticks that made it impossible to autorun without either wandering off in random directions or having it cancel my autorun every five seconds or so, so I ditched it and got the Saitek.

Well, besides the lack of Sticks, the PS1's buttons aren't pressure sensitive... which really doesn't have any bearing whatsoever, unless you're playing a PS2 game that is programmed to use the function. I use a Logitech Online Keyboard-Controller combo made for the PS2. Even though i had a bad experience with the Dual Action Gamepad, this current controller is very well made, and continues to give top-notch performance. Everything feels solid, and not cheap and flimsy, like every single PC controller...EVER. I recommend it, but it's pricy for a controller - about $60 USD.

If you want something that will last forever go with the original sony controllers. Don't be fooled by these gimmick controllers.

I have the aforementioned radioshack adapter, and it is absolutely amazing. Just took my ps1 controller, plugged it in, and was good to go. Be forewarned that the installer is on a floppy disk though; if you need me to email the installer file to you, drop me a PM. I can also play roms with it now...fwee!
