That was the discussion I was having with a friend at work, today. They don't mention what the ratio is in mass of "trash" to mass of oil produced, but there's definately not a shortage of trash and it doesn't necessarily have to replace oil drilling all together, its possible it could significantly lighten the necessity of buying oil from the Saudis (though drilling in our own country would do that, too). That would be a lot right there. And its not like growing bacteria is difficult, a lot of bacterias double in population everyday given enough food. Definately have to know more about it before we start planning the future, but just the fact that they're getting bacteria to make oil is pretty damn impressive in and of itself.
