That seems to be a display bug. If you wait a little bit, it'll kick back out of the preparing status. At least, that's what happened for us last night with the undead swarm. That
may have been a result of our emergency raid on Arrapeggo to get our generals back, quickly wiping through most of the mobs in the zone.
