The following are types of VDU's. (Video Display Unit, aka Monitor)
CRT(Cathode Ray Tube) is the same as in TV's.
LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) have Thin Film Transistors (aka TFT)
Plasma.
TFT monitors are common more expensive as CRT monitors. They use less electricity, and therefor produce less heat. They don't produce radiation(TCO99). They are smaller(thinner), and better for usage on small desks. Their low weight and size does make them more easy to steal. Con's of a TFT screen is their low light producement, and their relative low screen refreshing speed. Most users won't be bothered by it, but in an action game it's a con.
Plasma screens are very pretty, have a high light producement but are also very expensive. Plasma video is created by millions of small crystals in a film. By twisting slowly, they produce different colors with the light.
