To you it may not be that much, but a lot of people do not have that level of disposable income.
Of course, when Mommy and Daddy are covering it, it does seem that anyone should be able to throw away money on a frivolous purchase. I doubt people are going to choose to upgrade their systems when they don't have to just because you deem it necessary.
